Week 7 Oregon St RER & Other Statistical Observations

Here are the Week 7 RERs (season RER) and some other observations from today's game.

I'm only listing receivers who had a catch.

Di Luigi: 62.60(78.22)

Apo: -22.13 (94.99)

Hoffman: 259.08 (162.51)

Falslev: 156.24 (73.37)

Holt: 242.80 (218.52)

Wilson: 142.00 (148.35)

Friel: 497.20 (same)



- Riley's PER in the first half was 98.30, but 178.92 in the 2nd. On the season it's 154.54 in the 1st half and 149.45 in the 2nd.

- Riley has eight TD passes in the last nine quarters of play.

- BYU has converted 27 of 40 (.675) on third down the last three games.

- BYU has 79 first downs the last three games.

- The last two games, BYU has run 69 1st down plays. They have faced only 30 2nd & 7 or longer and only six of those have turned into 3rd & 7 or longer. Our opponents have just 58 1st down plays but have faced 33 2nd & 7 or longer and 14 3rd & 7 or longer.

- Riley's PER on 3rd down was 253.11 today. It was the best 3rd down PER for BYU since Max Hall's 313.90 vs Wyoming in 2009.

I'm not trying to pile it on Heaps tonight. Just comparing him to the Jr. Nelson right now. Heaps let the pressure get to him. As the downs went up, his performance seemed to go down. He needs to learn how to deal with, even embrace that pressure and use it help him. Nelson looks so much more comfortable on 3rd down, he does the little things that keep the chains moving.



Anyway, I thought the 3rd down conversion was one of the most obvious positive differences that Nelson brought to the table. 3rd downs have done a 180 since game 4.5.

Riley did a 180 on 3rd down today as well. His PER last week vs SJSU on 3rd down was 31.07. Ouch. Worst PER on 3rd down this year.

So what was his USU 3rd down? I thought he did pretty well against USU.



Also what were his stats on 3rd down vs SJSU if you don't mind throwing the numbers out for us.

Riley only threw once vs USU on 3rd down and it was incomplete. He was 1-3 for 23 yards and an INT vs SJSU.



Riley has run 10 times on 3rd down this year for 70 yards and 10 first downs.

Does a QB get any credit for rushing in their PER? If not - big value add.
