9 catches for 162 yards, not a bad game for having a quarterback who can't get the ball to him ;)

and a couple of drops for even more yards. This kid is and is going to be a beast.

Best performance by a BYU WR since...well, at least the last time Hoffman had a monster game.



Some of those catches were jaw-dropping. Kid has got pretty good hops.

Agreed. Hoffman is tough and fights for the ball. It seems that if the ball isn't right to apo he doesn't seem to try. If Hoffman hadn't dropped that one post route in the third he would have had over 2 bills in receiving yards. He looked good.

Good for him for having a monster game in front of a lot of people from his home town.

Apo and Chambers need to have a conversation about heart.

Hoffman is definitely playing better than Apo at this point. One thing is that Hoffman has a year and a half of game experience to his credit. Apo has just this year. I don't remember Hoffman doing much last year until later on in the year. I also think Apo would be doing better now if he didn't have those head shots earlier in the year, they have to be having some effect on him.

thing i noticed about apo is that he just sort of trots around... never looked like he's willing to scrap for the ball or hustle on or off the field....

Hoffman has an incredible game making some truly incredible catches and is a huge factor in the win. So naturally the discussion drifts to how Apo has no heart and doesn't try very hard.



Kids a freshman for pete's sake. And one who has struggled with concussions this season...



Any of you actually know the kid or how he competes? Or is this going to turn into another, "life is like football, so I can infer from the routes he runs (the ones I can see on my television screen every 15 plays or so) that he has poor character" threads...

Would have saved my pasing yards prediction in the CC Prediction Game too. Nothing could have saved my rushing yards prediction. I can only hope nobody else saw a 300 yard rushing outburst coming either.

This. He had all three of outr TDs before Heaps hung him out to dry.

Or maybe part of it is because Apo has the best defender on him, and is getting gameplaned against? Like the Utah game for example... When he was getting double coverage, and Hoffman had a breakout game then.



C'mon guys, they are both good. And the field usually isn't big enough for both to have a monster game. Let's not get all crazy and down on our guys, questioning heart and integrity. That's just weird.

I'm going with the he's been hearing footsteps since his big hit and concussion. It's going to take a litte for both his head to clear and for those footsteps to get quieter.



He'll come around. Idaho St whould provide some opportunities for big plays.

I have to admit I was disappointed in the OSU game yesterday, that Apo had a long TD pass to him in the endzone and the ball was well thrown by Nelson, but Apo made no play on the ball. The ball appeared catchable, it looked like a TD to me, but Apo just drifted back and the DB makes the play, and it was incomplete.

Cody was this good end of last year. He was not this good vs superior opponents in our first four games.

1. RN is making more time for plays to develop by scrambling.

2. RN is his best friend and primary target and he has more faith and investment.

3. RN throws a more catchable (slow) ball.

4. RN is laying it all on the line--so is Cody, NOW. Two really amazing catches, yesterday.

5. Recent DB's are just not as aggressive as UT, UofU, or OleMiss's.



Not bagging on Cody. He played awesome. Lets see how he does against vs TCU. He's a really good receiver vs inferior opponents. I think he could be good vs superior as well, now that RN is getting this offense to hum better.

I have to admit, as I reflect on past BYU QBs, Heaps, and Nelson, I have begun to wonder if the ball with less zip, just translates into a more catchable ball, both because it gives the receiver time to move to the ball, and because a hot pass tends to stay hot and uncatchable unless it is right on target. Also, it may well be that the passes with less zip can also be intercepted more easily. Nelson's out pass to Apo that was intercepted for 6 yesterday, may not have been intercepted if Heaps had thrown the pass.



Still, I'll take a pick 6 every game if the offense can put up 38 points (probably should have had at least 17 more points (Alisa's called back TD, Apo's missed TD, Sorenson's missed FG). So the real score should have been BYU 55, OSU 21. This was our breakout offensive game that didn't quite translate into a whole bunch of points, but sure could have.

Anyone in here who thinks Apo has no heart needs to get a freaken life. Why do you all of a sudden discount his three TDs from the first three games? Besides, does the word "CONCUSSION" (x2) mean a thing to you guys? Puhlease....

To add to my earlier post, I just saw this on the ticker from cougarstats: Hoffman thru 7 games of freshman year: 20 for 191 and 1 TD. Apo through 7 games: 17 for 191 and 3 TDs. If Apo works and can get over his earlier hits, he probably will be just fine.
