Apo - DB flat out outran him

That is BCS speed - we just do not have it.

Could it be that the DB started that way, caught the ball, and had the momentum already, and Apo had to stop going one way and start the other, making it very difficult to catch him?

That's what I think happened

Well yes, the DB broke on the ball, APO was going out of bounds and had to recover. Truth is the DB did not gain any ground on Apo, so Apo was as fast as he was.

Don't understand why Apo isn't used more??

Why aren't there more offensive sets where both of those guys are on the field? McKay hasn't shown too much to show he belongs out there more than Apo.

I'm asking this as a mere observation, rather than conspiracy theorizing: does it seem like the switch from Jake to Riley correlates with less appearances by Apo?

Apo hasn't really impressed me this year.

I think the truth is that they've tried to get the ball to Apo but he doesn't get open as consistently as Hoffman does and he drops more balls too. Hoffman, right now, is just a better option than Apo so he gets the ball more.

Did Jacobsen even have a catch today? Apo hasn't impressed me either. Hoffman is emerging. Matthews was quiet today too. The TEs did well though.

Apo, looks average based on expectations. He ran a horribly un-sharp route on the one pass. He made a soft cut left and was drifting downfield instead of a sharp plant to the middle. At any rate, he doesnt seem to come to the ball very well. And quite frankly he looks as average as many receivers do when Jake plays.

He has dropped almost every pass thrown to him since Heaps hung him out to dry for two consuccsoins. Better question would be why Heaps didn't go to HOffman more. Much better question. Heaps ruined Apo by locking ont ohim and letting defenders, thus, lock into him.

THis means that the hyperbole we all heard before the season started that he would dominate defenders and that they wouldnot even be able to cover him wihtout PIing him - was just that - hyperbole. It means that BCS teams are loaded with players as fast or faster than Apo. BYU usually does not get real speed or very much of it - hence the shortage of BY receivers and RBs and DBs having big NFL careers.



Apo has good speed for a BYU receiver and is fast enough to do OK in BCS competition - he is not the greatest WR to ever walk the earth. He was better than he is now - before Heaps kept locking in on him and thus letting defenses lock in on him and give him concussions over the middle. He has the dropsies and does not fight as hard to get open in tight coverage.



Defenses are going to start focusing on Hoff and that should open things up for Jacobsen, Apo, and others if they take advantage of it.

Because he's a lazy route runner and doesn't fight for the ball. He had a chance to break up the pick six, and he could have fought for the near pick in the endzone, but he just gave up. He could use a 9-11 reunion tour with Heaps on the bench after what he showed this game.

Would be nice to see stats on the WR regarding passes thrown to them, catches made, dropped balls, average yard per catch, number of TDs. I think we will be surprised at who are others besides Hoffman that are productive.

That being said, Apo pulled a Heaps and just kind of jogged along side of him, it was like he was running a marathon and was trying to use the DB to block the wind... Watch out for the nipple chafing :sick:

I think so. Apo was Heaps' go to guy. Hoffman is Riley's. End of story.
