Stats fail.
San Jose pre-BYU was allowing a PER of 135.12. Post BYU it's 138.53
Oregon St's defensive PER is 154.43 good for 113th.
I'll be very surprised if Riley is ineffective in the passing game. If he is struggling, you let him work through it. He's shown he can get it done. He deserves a few halves to figure things out - at a minimum.
No, at this point in time, I don't think Heaps is capable of a USU-type comeback, nor do I think one will be necessary this week.
Stats don't matter when a team is able to shut down your QB's ability to scramble with their front four. Yes there is a difference between a mediocre Pac 12 team's d-line and two Wac teams' d-lines. Don't forget that OSU has been a very good team over the past five years and its not like they have replaced their entire defense with scrubs this year.
It doesn't matter that OSU's only win was against UA who hasn't won anything either. (we probably have the same record as UA right now if we played their schedule.) Remember a couple years back when the apple cup featured a winless UW against a winless WSU? Don't forget that we played that winless UW and only beat them by one point by blocking an extra point.
Except that through two games, no one has stopped Riley yet in scrambling with just their front four.
Rushing Defense:
#34 Utah State 115.4 ypg (BYU had 200 yards, so USU was even more stout vs the run w/out the BYU game)
#47 Oregon St 130.2 ypg
#94 San Jose St 192.3 ypg (BYU had 224 yards, so SJSU was even more stout vs the run w/out the BYU game).
Sacramento St had 71 yards on 32 carries; Wisconsin had 208 yards on 43 carries; UCLA had 211 yards on 49 carries; Arizona St had 109 yards on 32 carries ; Arizona had 53 yards on 19 carries.
No has really gashed the Beavers and the only team they really stopped was Sac St and Arizon (who barely tried to run).
Oregon State is a team we should beat.
