BYU has been on the list and IS on the list

Under the heading of "possible future conferences" for the Big 12, it lists BYU, Louisville, TCU, West Virginia and Notre Dame (excluding football) as potential new members that could restore the fractured league to full strength. A TCU announcement of such a move was expected later Monday.


Not on that list was Air Force, who stated that they had an invite.



Some of you that think that TCU in has changed BYUs direction; I personally say it's irrelevant. If BYU wants in, they're in. The fact that BYU hasn't accepted that invite says a lot about how bad BYU wants this though. But the fact that they haven't pulled an "Air Force" and admitted to the invite and stated a refusal says enough to me that there is still interest.



I had a pretty good feeling that BYU was accepting 10 days ago; it seems that Missouri stole that thunder, but more likely there are terms that either BYU or the Big 12 can't get past currently.

I suspect will find out soon enough. Hoping Mizzou stays and BYU and the Donkeys get in.

Doesn't really sound like the Big12 is looking to expand if Mizzou stays...but this changes so much and so quickly. I have reconciled myself to independence.

Doesn't mean BYU can't join in the future, or are we just assuming conferences will never expand again?

D-II? Seriously? With as much as BYU currently has invested in its sports program, including its role in the missionary effort? Not gonna happen, dude. Things will work out the way they need to work out, and that will not likely be D-II. I'm not sure exactly what will happen, but we'll be fine, and continue to compete with the best of them.

Neinas told ESPN that the BigXII is set at ten schools for next year (2012), so the short fuse for any BYU negotiations just got a LOT longer.

Have we been playing D-II sports forever? We've never been a part of a major conference. We are what we are and that's OK.


My thoughts exactly. Its not like we have won BCS bowls the last four years and are tired of being overlooked for a national championship. We are what we are--a good football program that has great teams once in a while, but are in sort of a rut right now. Independence suits that just fine and is an improvement over the MWC.



I'm not sure joining a BCS conference would change it either. As long as our academic standards and honor code exists, we cannot compete athletically with the Perrenial programs that overlook those issues. You know what? I don't care either. I would rather the football players be good representatives of the University, and by extension, the Church.



Bear hunting with a spear is a lot of fun. Bear hunting with a tomahawk missile, not as much. On second thought, maybe that would be fun too, but it ruins my analogy.

It might ruin the analogy, but the visual imagery is just too good to pass up!

Sorry for the confusion, I guess what I was implying by my D-II comment was that our relevance in major college football will be or soon will be gone. In my mind's eye I see there being three divisions in the future of super conferences. There will be BCS, Non-AQ's, and FCS. If you are not in a super conference, then you are not relevant.

Just sit back and wait on Missouri. BYU will make no moves until Missouri does. If BYU was 100% set on Indy, they would have already announced a slew of games for future years to try to offset the unrest among Cougar fans. The fact that nothing has happened means that it is not over yet. Perhaps it is for 2012, as Missou can not leave until 2013 because they missed the leave deadline, but would BYU really be unhappy with 2013. I think not. 2013 might be more palatable to many at BYU. So sit tight and wait.

Being on the list is no longer enough. BYU needs to be in the conference. We were ahead of TCU and already screwed that up.

I read an article on Deep shades of blue. Not sure where he got his info but it was interesting and kind of cleared things up as far as TCU vs BYU goes with the conference. here is the link.

The article also says that we were ahead of TCU on the original expansion "want" list.

3 months ago the going theory was that no new series were being announced because of TV negotiations and general ineptitude by the AD office. Now we're supposed to buy the line that we've just been strategically holding out for a BCS conference invite?

Which is it? It's laughable how the interpretations change so quickly when the tea leaves are the same.
