shouldn't be a surprise, especially if they somehow avoid a complete collapse but where exactly are they going to get 6 more? Seems like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel now. Sounds more and more like Armageddon is at hand. yeah. Even at the doors.

Big East is in survival mode. They may stay together, but keeping their BCS status may be a huge problem for them now.

Just saw this gem. AF is probably one of the schools looking at the BE. Interesting perhaps, but that's not the GEM. They turned the Big 12 down.

As long as their are a decent number of North Eastern teams and the East coast bias still exists, the Big East will retain their BCS status. Sadly.

If they ad air force and Boise, I wouldn't mind joining them. They would probably let us keep BBall in the WCC, which seems to be a big deal to the brethren who don't want to look like weasels turning their backs on their new partner.

Crazy idea. All Big East members act like Notre Dame. They go all-in for their other sports. But for football, they only play 3 conference games. They schedule the rest of their 9 games on their own.



Invite Hawaii, BYU, Navy, Army, AFA & Boise football only. Only AFA & Boise need a new home for their other sports. AFA jumps to join Army & Navy. Boise jumps for AQ status & the bowl agreements.

Assuming the BC$ is sufficiently corrupt to ever have the bullocks to kick the Big LEast out of the cartel, I'd say put the cougs in there. A conference schedule full of semi-cupcakes with an occasional game against WestVa, and automatic BCS qualification status (you don't even have to ranked!). The road to the BCS doesn't get much easier than that! Football purists be damned, we'd go BCS 3 years out of every 5!

I think there is a bylaw for the BCS that was discussed last year when the Big XII was about to blow up that requires a conference with an autobid to retain at least 5 of its member schools in order to keep that autobid. It was talked about because the Pac-10 was going to take 4 from the Big 12, and then the raiding would begin to get to 16, and the Big XII would be left with 4 schools (something like KU, KSU, ISU, and CO? I've heard too many rumors to keep track anymore). With 4 members, even if they in turn absorbed the MWC schools, they wouldn't get to keep their autobid.



The relevance is that if the Big XII does indeed take Louisville and WVU, and does so for the 2012 season, they will be down to 4 members, and lose their autobid - and then chaos will ensue with the resulting power vacuum.

Yes 5 teams within the last xx years. They have 27 months before those teams leave. I don't remember how long they have to be in the conference for them to count.

If the Big East is going after AF, would you think that means they've also approached BYU?

I suppose it's possible....AFA would need a travel partner, and the Big East needs at least 2 schools, and will probably eventually need more since the ACC can raid them again at will.



It might make more sense for them to go after AFA and BYU in football only, since you wouldn't have all the minor sport travel issues and since the Big East has way more non-football schools than they have football schools.
