2 QB system?

I personally would like to see both QB's get a chance to play today. Its a softer defense and it would be good to see how Riley throws and if Jake has gotten his head right. Bronco doesn't seem willing to play both guys and i have had a hard time understanding his comments about why.

He only did this once last year. Against UW he played both QBs and we won our opener. We played Airforce and Jake played 2 series and then sat on the sidelines the whole second half while Riley got pounded. Then against FSU Riley played one or two series and Jake took over for the injured Nelson.



It seems like he didn't give it much of a shot last year, so how does he know it couldn't work? Urban Meyer did it and won a national championship with Leaf and Tebow, Texas is doing it well with Ash and McCoy. One common denominator with those two teams is that they were coached by guys who rarely get/got out-coached, unlike Bronco. Maybe that's the issue, coach.

There will be a chance for two qb's to play: Riley for the first three quarters, and then the backup when we're up big in the fourth.

Too bad we never let the back-up throw any passes. I was hoping to see some throws from Lark last season during garbage time, but just running plays.

Riley will run the same offense that Jake ran. The only difference is a few more QB draws that play to Riley's strengths.



BYU hasn't been practicing two offenses since Riley got hurt last year. Doman has already said that Riley came to him in the off season and asked not to be given a different offense.



Playing two QBs would be a mistake. If you're concerned about a QB controversy and the team responding to different players, you don't play both QBs.

But 2QB is doing so well at Texas! At least against an unprepared BYU, inept UCLA, perpetual cellar-dweller Iowa State, and Oklaho........erm......nevermind.

Horrible idea. If Bronco were to go this route I'd seriously be in favor of demoting him to DC and finding an experienced and proven head coach.

Why does it have to be a QB controversy. Why can't it be a QB competition. Controversy is destructive, Competition is healthy. I think the Media and the fans turn it into a controversy.

Because the job shouldn't be-reopened mid-season. Heaps won the job with his play in practice. He lost it with his play in games. Unfortunately, the time for competition is past. Just like with Heaps being named the starter ended the competition, the competition should be over as well.



Now if Riley starts stinking up the joint as well, then you can reopen the competition again, but probably to Lark. If you are having open tryouts during the season for "competition" then you are opening the team for even more division and controversy.

It also didn't work very well against the Sooners.

I don't know if having Colt McKoy or Jordan Shipley would have helped much against Oklahoma today.
