and the funny thing? They're way more sure they'll join the Big XII than we've ever been.

Tulane leaving the SEC to become independent in 1966 has to be one of the stupidest decisions in college football history--they decided they couldn't compete any more and left. It's slightly stupider than Georgia Tech deciding to leave in 1964 because their coach hated that other schools oversigning players and also had a feud with Bear Bryant. I know we have the gift of hindsight, but what were they thinking?!



Tech's tried several times to get back in, but never successful. At any rate, South Carolina and Arkansas thank Tulane and Tech for leaving, but I'm sure Vandy appreciated having Tulane around as company at the bottom of the standings.



Tulane almost dropped D1 athletics in the mid-2000s and now they think they're a serious contender for the Big XII?
