Gilbert to Transfer

Looks like Gilbert is taking his ball and going home. Got beat out by younger QB's.



I don't think this is same situation for Heaps as Nelson is a year a head of him and Heaps could redshirt next year if Nelson beats him out for the starting job next year. Lark could back up Nelson.

And I'd bet he'll never make it anywhere if that's the case. I certainly wouldn't want him playing for BYU.

Gilbert sucks worse than Heaps ever has. Perhaps FCS will suit him.

I'm surprised at that he didn't pan out. After being thrown in to the spotlight during the national championship game in '09, he played pretty dang well and almost led Texas to a comeback against Alabama in the second half.



I didn't watch any UT games last year and only one this year, I just remember watching that NC game thinking, "wow, this kid is going to be really good."



I guess maybe the problem is that Gilbert was thinking the same thing.

Gilbert is a not only a good kid, he's a great kid, and completely handled his demotion with class.



IMO, this has much, much more to do with other factors than just getting beat out. The kid has all the tangibles, but just isn't there mentally. I believe in large part because of last season, and most of all, the unfortunate behavior by Texas fans towards him. The kid was carrying a mountain of burden on his back that grew every time he didn't throw the perfect pass. He deserves a fresh start.



I love my Longhorns, but we tend to eat our own when they don't live up to expectations. The hatred and vitriol towards Gilbert by Texas fans, not only evident in the media, but at the games, was very difficult to see.



I can't imagine how his father felt, sitting in the stands and having to hear the hatred and insults spewed out by fans of the University that his child grew-up idolizing. It's an unfortunate, and embarrassing thing to watch. After all, these are just kids playing a game, solely for our entertainment.



I wish him well, and hope he proves the haters wrong.

I think that this was very well said. And as others point out, can apply to a school that I'm a big fan of....
