Two Observations on BYU-Utah State

2 things I want to point out that seem to be missing from most of the chatter since the game:



1) There was another team out there! Utah State played very well, and their running game was excellent. Their pass coverage was also stellar. No-one seems to be giving them any credit for how well they played the game.



2) A number of posts have referred to 2 "dropped" passes that would have been touchdowns thrown by Jake Heaps. Please take a look at those again. Although both were accurately thrown (which was rare in this game), one was covered very well, and knocked away by the defender. The other was also covered well, and even if caught, would have been out-of-bounds.



I believe the receivers are looking much better this year than last, but they did have difficulty getting open against Utah State. Give at least some of that credit to Utah State.

USU played well enough to beat us. They have to be the best 1-3 team in the country.



If you go over to the Daily Herald - the grades article - would support much of what you are saying and fly in the face of what many others are saying.



QB got B- as a composite mark. Nelson had PER over 200, so Heaps performance weighed the grade down heavily. Receivers B+. Better than weighted QB grade. Way better than Heps. RB C- on 140 yards but no TDs. OL got very good grades - A- - based on 200 yards of running and no sacks. Heaps had decent pass protection. Still rushed throws. DL got C- and it took a strong Q4 to get it that high. DBs got decent marks - better than LB or DL.



So not everyone sees things quite the same.
