Will 2010 recruiting class live up to the hype?

Out of 27 signing how many of them are panning out? I think most of the ?? are probably on missions. I know it takes years to see how these classes work out at BYU but so far there hasn't been as much contribution as I was expecting.

In a word No!



Over time and with patience more of them will contribute. The Press Conference Trio will under achieve simply because the expectations were so unrealistic. To meet the expectations set - they would all need to become NFL STARS. They might. They might not. At very best, they have already failed re the time it would take for them to star on this team.



STARS are a cancer. Entitlement usually comes with it. It divides teams. Not just QBs.



If one of our historians makes a list like this of every 4 star HS or transfer student - and maps POTENTIAL vs results - no over achievement because the expectations are so ridiculous that there is no room for overachievement, and usually underachievement. Oftentimes - BUST.



Not just at BYU.



But you do occasionally see a Manti Teo that seems to meet or nearly meet them. but we missed out on him.

KVN - after nearly losing him before he got here - is meeting very high expectations. That is one of the very few exceptions.

WAY too early to rate the 2010 class. Come back to us in a few years (like 2014).

If BYU Football is going to be a top caliber program, BYU Fans need to get used to the idea that few if any freshmen will be impact players.



On a related note, while stars help give direction, BYU Fans need to get used to high-star recruits not getting significant playing time until their Sophomore/Junior years... and redshirting...

KVN has been a great player so far. Having said that, he was the OLB out of position on both of USU's long runs on Friday. On one of them, he literally ran right past the RB.

He didn't start the past two games so I assume you aren't assuming he was in on the 80 yard run to open the game. On the screen pass touchdown he made an effort to beat two blockers but Turbin read the blocks well and ran around him.

Then your opinion would be incorrect since Bronco mentioned in his post game interview on ksl that KVN took himself right out of that play. If he had been playing his assignment correctly, the 53 yeard run would not have happened.

I think it was painfully obvious that his assignment was the QB on that play. The problem was that he handed the ball off quickly and Van Noy didn't notice the RB run right past him with the ball. After the play was over I'm sure the coaches weren't okay with what he did based on the fact that the RB wasn't his responsibility...



That play and one against UCF where he run up field to quick and the QB cut up field causing Van Noy to slip and resulted in the TD are the only two plays that I think Van Noy screwed up on. In my opinion he is already our best line backer.

I love Van Noy, but Jordan Pendleton is our best linebacker. Just look at the results in the running game since Pendleton has been out. He hurt his ankle in the utah game, look at what happened to the running game in the second half, how many yards did Central florida get, and look at what Utah state did against us. With a healthy Pendleton, I have a feeling that utah state would not have cut us up as badly as they did.

Its hard to name Pendleton the best linebacker when he has only been healthy for 1.5 games over the past 12 games. Being able to stay on the field is obviously not something that Pendleton is very good at. I'll give you that a 100% healthy Pendleton is probably the best; however, that's not what we are getting on game day. It's kind of like Heaps being the best QB in practice but when it comes to game time, well you know how that story has gone...

KVN's responsibility is to take both of them out! TIC but it can be done.

Fact is, we will not know how good this class was until 2014. Which is odd for most programs, but just how it is at BYU. Missions put things on hold for 2-3 years with a class.
