Potential vs Playmaking

Please - someone make this into a poll for us. My iPad cannot and I won't be home til Wednesday.



I have two new nicknames - make that three - ok make it 5 for our QBs. Which would youblike to see start and finish next week - no matter the outcome - no substitutions unless knocked out of the game by injury?

You know me - Playmaker next week. Unknown in mop up duty and if Playmaker starts there will be mop up duty for several weeks this season. By the end of the season, maybe we get lucky and start 2012 with 3 playmakers fighting for the Job. By the end of the season, we get Munns some significant snaps too. If he has it, we RS Potential in 2012, and hope he becomes Playmaker in 2013 or 2014 - winning Heisman of course and NC and Big 12.

I've always felt the biggest problem with Heaps was that the coaches and his fans were all hoping his potential would eventually show up and his development got rushed. At this point I just hope he can get it all together and still become the awesome QB we know he can be. It's 90% mental with Heaps at this point. His potential really hasn't helped him much exception being the UTEP game, which was one of the worst teams that we played last year.



Guys who can make the plays should be on the field and the potential should be on the scout team developing that potential.

I think you should always go with the player that can make plays. I don't know that we know if Nelson is really that guy yet. If Nelson can prove that when a defense prepares for his abilities, he can still make plays, then I am fully behind going with Nelson.



From what we saw last year, I am not convinced he will be able to do that. I would love to be proven wrong.

I think fifthqb is already taken as a nickname. He's a frequent poster on this site.

I have been a real Heaps supporter this year because I saw him play at CSU last year and he had a great game. This year I've kept thinking that the next game will be the break out game--but the breakout has never happened. It's a difference between talent and leadership ability. Heaps has tons of talent while Riley is a true leader.



I think Jake can be all we hoped, but as Lavell said in the pregame show, in his time at BYU the QB's nearly always started as juniors. Ty Detmer at least red shirted before playing back up as a freshman.
