Your new BYU starting QB!



Heaps can now have a chance to watch the game from the sidelines and learn.

That guy just etched himself a little corner in Cougar history I think.



He definitely deserves the start next week. Bring Heaps in as a change of pace QB maybe.



Not sure what the difference was...WRs caught for Nelson, dropped for Heaps.



It feels good to win though!

Here's the thing, Nelson's throws weren't beautifully placed everytime, but they were put where the guy making the catch didn't have to worry about getting laid out. Makes a difficult catch a little easier.

I've never been a big Riley fan...but when's the last time a back up BYU QB leads the team in rushing, throws two TDs in the fourth quarter, and leads the team on a 96 yard drive in 2.5 minutes? Kudos to Riley AND to Doman for calling to Riley's strengths

there was a moment at the end when heaps came out to give hoffman five and hoffman dissed him.. anyone catch that? I don't blame him.. I think he was thrown to more in the last 5 min of the game than the whole year so far. Yeah the team changed with Nelson.

Go Riley, ya gotta hand it to him. So throw out the Heaps offensive and start designing it around a running QB! He may not be pretty but if he can do what he did tonight he'll be starting until he graduates!

I'm pretty sure he thinks he's pretty. ;)

During the press-conf, Bronco was asked who will start at QB next week. Bronco said they'd evaluate things over the weekend. Really? 63000 people just made an on-field evaluation!

It's the PC thing to do. Same thing Mack Brown said after he hid Garrett Gilbert in the water cooler against BYU.

I think his legitimate presence as a running threat completely changed the defensive take on things and opened up some of the receivers. There's also the scrambling ability he showed and the fact that a left-handed passer can often throw defenders off, especially if they haven't been practicing for it all week.

Did anyone else notice how much more aggressive the whole o became. Props to you riley. Now let's see it continue to next week

I expect Heaps will still see playing time this year, but doubt he will start again. And, I think next year we will have a QB controversy (Heaps and Lark). To tell you the truth, I'm not sure Heaps can play college football; I don't know why, but he really kind of stinks it up out there. He had Holt break free for a TD and heaps throws a fastball over his head. For being such a great, accurate passer, he is so far a lousy, inaccurate passer. Keaton, a true freshman, was a better passer than Heaps. Without Nelson, BYU loses by two or three tds.

Bronco said during his presser that Ogletree came up to Bronco during game and said "I believe in Riley Nelson!"

Brandon Doman summed it up quite nicely post-game: End of the game was "filled with grit, determination, and faith--things our team has been missing most of this season, especially on the offensive side of the ball. I think we found that in the middle of the third quarter."

I don't know if you could see it on your TVs, but it was Riley's abs that threw that second touchdown pass.

Then Ogletree basically denied saying anything so specific, basically implying that it was all non-verbal.

Doman said he thinks Nelson has earned it, and he would recommend Nelson start, but final decision is Bronco's....

On the radio, Nelson said he knew they needed to hurry things along and he did it! He may not have the best arm or the best what ever, but what he does have is emotion and enough of it to spread through the whole team. With all that he is modest and was sportsman enough to wish Utah State well and compliment them for a hard fought game. Kind of wished he'd have started 4 to 5 quarters ago.

If Nelson (and this is a big if) plays well the rest of this year, I think the coaches think long and hard about RSing Heaps next year.
