We won in spite of the D tonight.

They missed some tackles. However, I was really impressed by the USU backs and their ability to read holes and run off of blocks. Also, the USU o-line was blocking linebackers ALL NIGHT. Would be nice to see our Oline try that.

Even the defense was inspired when Nelson came in. He's definitely a team leader.

Utah State: 0 turnovers, only 24 points.



Yeah, we gave up 400 yards offense. Yeah, that mid-game stretch where Utah State was getting 5 yards a rush at will sucked. But the D came up when it had to.

someone else mentioned this, but BYU's D just held the best USU offense in years to a season low in points. UCF and USU have been the best offenses that BYU has faced and BYU's D was serviceable enough to get the wins.



I do not agree that BYU won in spite of the D. BYU should be able to score more than 24 points on any night.

I think it was a combo of good Aggie O-Line blocking, good reads by the RB's, and the D being out of position or not making the right decision on routes to the RB's. That first play was indicative of this. The DB should have pushed to the outside of the WR blocking and forced Turbin to cut back and not continue down the sideline. The D would have caught him and stopped him for a nice gain but not a TD. Instead he stays on the inside of the block and Turbin goes all the way down the sideline. We are have these problems with our LB's too. They pinch in, get grabbed by the tackle and the rb goes around them.



One other thing I noticed, our D is trying to lay wood on every play so you see a lot of hitting but not a lot of wrapping up. You can't just hit a rb and expect he is going to fall down. Hopefully the D takes this one personally like last year and it translates to a lot more success in stopping the run.

I think that KVN (bless his soul) is being a little too aggressive and gets too deep in the backfield. It leaves that side of the field vulnerable to a big run. Both of UCF's QB runs for TDs were to his side of the field, and I noticed it once again last night on a big run for USU.



Did anyone notice Ansah?! He looked pretty good and had a great tackle on a kickoff or punt.

It is no coincidence that all big the runs happened to Uale's side of the field, on basically the same play. Guy has absolutely no physicality. Got manhandled on blocks for big runs a few times now, this season.



It is not hard to lay down a big hit. I can go out there and lay down a big hit (done it before ;) a few years ago... ). But shucking a block is a skillset you have to develop, and he clearly does not have it.



The guy just looks clueless, and couldn't take a good angle on someone to save his life. On one running TD play against USU, I saw him probably 3 yards deep in the endzone, and there were 2 running lanes being opened up. Uale is just drifting around back there behind the blocks finding out what running lane he is going to (rb is on the 3 at this point). Uale doesn't pick one, and is found in his usual spot 3-4 yards away from the guy scoring the TD.



And as far as KVN, on a blitz it is the LB's job to get into the backfield and turn him from the sideline to the middle of the field. The safety should be there to back him up. That is the safeties fault each and every time, not the linebacker. It is the line backers fault if he lets him get to the sidelines uninhibited.



We really need someone else out there at Safety. Sorenson had a decent game.
