BYU to Big 12 will fix Heaps' problems

Here's my latest theory. If BYU joins the Big 12, then we will see Heaps become the legand we all expected.



I think the down fall this year has been a combination of Heaps being overconfident after the way last year ended, the independence hype and how we had the perfect schedule to go undefeated and run at a national championship (lots of easy teams and big name teams who are down), and maybe even the whole getting married thing. He became a fan and thought if he goes through the motions, then everything will magically come out the way they did for the past greats.



After the rude awakening this year, going to the Big 12 no one is going to be saying, "BYU is going to instantly contend for the conference championship." Heaps and BYU will then play the underdog role (like 2009 going into the Oklahoma game). Heaps will pay a lot more attention to details and really doing the small things that separate the talented players and the elite ones. He won't take anything for granted.



Just an idea.

It appears to me that the marriage thing may have limited his film time and weight training time. He just hasn't made enough correct reads and he doesn't to appear to have made the normal increase in strength for a Freshman to Sophomere year.

Has the marriage also limited his ability to make consistent throws?

Good thought, but I don't think Heaps has ever played the underdog role in his life.



The thing about Max, McMahon, Doman, Young, even Jimmer, all of them knew what it was to be the underdog, and they all had one thing Jakes hasn't yet shown: moxy. Greatness is what happens when you mix talent and scrappiness. It's easy for me to say from a keyboard in a cush office, but young Jake needs to find his fight and fire. Steve Young's right--without that fighter's spirit, some guys will just be great camp QB's rather than leaders and winners. Jake will need to reach deep and redefine himself--that's a hard thing to do.

Moving to the Big 12 is going to get our offensive line out of the last 5 spots out of 120 in every category? Cool.
