Will Pres. Samuelson remain?

I was curious as to how old President Samuelson was seeing as it has been a general guideline these last 5-6 years that as a GA (non-Q12 or OFP) turns 70, they are released and retired. According to the a source online, Cecil O. Samuelson turned 70 on August 1st. I haven't seen them make an exception to that guideline, but as it is a guideline, it's not written in stone. IMHO I would guess that come next April we will hear of his replacement.

Hope it's not a Crimson Club founder again.

I would bet that it is... those in charge seem to (incorrectly I believe ;) ) feel that we need good feelings between these two schools

Gotta agree with Lawboy here. CS has done a great job. I don't see a reason to replace him.

Not saying there is a need. I'm stating a fact that the current guideline is that when a member of one of the Q70 turns 70 years old, the following June 30th they are retired and if they are members of the 1st Q70, they are designated emeritus. If they keep Pres. Samuelson in place, then it will be the only exception I'm aware of. I just bring that up now because I happened to check his age yesterday. If I were a betting man, I'd be laying my money that this time next year, BYU has a new president. This has nothing to do of his great or bad performance. Only the facts of the issue.

He has done a great job, my joking about the Crimson Club aside. But BYU does like to keep fresh blood in there too, so I wont be surprised at all when EM_Puma turns out to be right.

He could get emeritus and still stay as President.



PS I thought this thread was about firing him and Bronco again.

My feelings are "A.B.B."--anyone but Bateman.

I'm available for the job. Who do I need to lobby? On second thought, it's probably not a good idea. I would spend all my time at sporting events and be very disinterested in the academic politics.

Let's see if one of the Steed decendants are available. Have Gerald Lund write another character to be the PERFECT candidtate. ;)

CS spends a fair amount of time with athletics. During the TE event he left to meet with a recruit.

NOt my favorite GA, but he works hard. I still hold some disfavor for the MWC media deal. He got worked on that one.

Was Rex Lee a GA?



The thing with 70s, they are always released at 70. Not just the last 5 or 6 years.



They generally handle the releases at one conference (April or October), then the sustainings at the other one.



He could still be the pres of BYU and be an emeritas GA.

What are you talking about? When Bateman was BYU president he dressed up in a BYU football uniform, with helmet in hand, went up to Squaw Peak and had his pic taken. He had that pic put on his Chrismas card he sent to some of the GA's. Never saw Samuelson do something like that.

Now it will be interesting if he is replaced as the guideline they had began to follow was to make this post as a priesthood assignement, for Bateman and Samuelson, as part of their duties as members of the Q70. What I found strange was that I didn't expect him to be released until next April. That is when they usually do the the releasings and new assignements begin August 1st. They released Elder Richard Hinckley, but he had already been retired beginning August 1st, so now whether President Samuelson will remain or be replaced by another Q70 member I do not know.

Other people have pointed this out. Says he'll remain as president.

Also I can say if you have ever known one you would know that even though they are considered Emeritus General Authorities, they are still General Authorities and still do official Church functions and activities from time to time. They just don't have a regular assignment and do fewer things. Having said that he could still serve as BYU President as long as he felt able or the Brotheren dictate.
