Leaving for Big 12: Dealing with Indy Remnants

So...it sounds like the deal is done. Things are in motion. Supposing we are in the Big 12 next year, what do we do with our schedule? Who do we drop?



Sept 8 - WEBER STATE

Sept. 15 - @ Utah

Sept 22 - @ Boise State

Oct 5 - UTAH STATE

Oct 13 - OREGON STATE

Oct. 20 - Notre Dame

TBD - @ Georgia Tech

TBD - @ New Mexico State

TBD - @San Jose State

TBD - HAWAII



So who is going to be the 3 non conference games? Assuming that we do not want to drop our Notre Dame series, and we just inked a new rivalry with Boise State, is Utah the last OOC game? That is a BRUTAL schedule, if so.

So, do we win 4 or 5 games next year? Yay, I'm so excited.

Simple: Drop the :utard: first (2-1 my ASS!). Next, drop all WAC teams (except MAYBE USU). Keep Weber, but push them up to the 1st game of the year - that, or keep USU - one or the other. Keep Boise, as they will be our new rival ;) . Try to push the GT series out for a few years - that was a good get, but no room for it this year. Ditto Oregon St. They owe us a return trip. I'm sure that with all of their troubles, they'd be fine delaying it. And, of course, you keep ND.



Assuming a 9-game conference schedule, you keep USU OR WSU, ND, and Boise. Ditch or delay the rest. If 8-game conference schedule, keep OSU too. Nice Pac-zip cupcake!

Even on the old schedule, I only count maybe five pretty-sure wins (Weber State, Utah State, Oregon State, New Mexico State, San Jose State). If our offense doesn't figure it out, it is going to be a long 2012 whether we're in the BIG XII or not.

So, is BYU football ready for a tough schedule, EVERY year? Are the fans ready? We will not see many 10 win seasons any more and even getting to a bowl game won't be an automatic...

Biggest questions now is 8 or 9 conference games. That will be a big decider.



Game 1 to drop is Utah. if they will not commit to BYU long term, lets drop the game in SLC.

Game 2 to change is ND. Push it back.

Game 3 to drop is Hawaii. Or push back.

Game 4 to Drop is GTech. Or push it back

Keep Oregon State. Series ends after next year anyway.

Drop the WAC games.

I don't see how the Big 12 has an 8 game sched. in 2012. Even if they go 12, they'll only have 10 in 2012 (assuming BYU is #10), with 2 more joining in a year or 2 or 3. So I'd assume a 9-game conference schedule in a round-robin format.

Big X had 11 teams up until this year, and played an 8 game league schedule. Might make for an uneven balance, but can be done.

It would be much easier to slide BYU in TAMU's spot rather than have 9 teams scramble for a nonconference game. Then again, there will be some BYU opponents looking for a noncon game if BYU makes the jump to the B12.

My take would be:



Sept 8 - WEBER STATE (keep) to get the O some early season confidence.

Sept. 15 - @ Utah (push out)

Sept 22 - @ Boise State (push out) we just signed a 12yr extension so easy to push this.

Oct 5 - UTAH STATE (keep) Gen Conf friday game. Does a b12 team want to play fridays?

Oct 13 - OREGON STATE (push out) same as GaTech

Oct. 20 - Notre Dame (keep) for alliance (future b12 influence maybe)

TBD - @ Georgia Tech (push out) make a 2 or 3 game of future season (on a down year:))

TBD - @ New Mexico State (drop) why is this game @ NMS?

TBD - @San Jose State (drop) Same as above

TBD - HAWAII (push out) good for hawaii/poly pipeline.



Also easier to keep the early season sched because most confs do not like OOC games late in the season.

Keep Utah State out of loyalty. And since football on Friday before conference weekend is the only football tradition in the state of Utah anymore apparently.



Keep Boise St because Kellen Moore graduates this year...



Keep Notre Dame because it will be on NBC and Notre Dame is always beatable in this decade.



Keep Weber St for more in state football.



Try to publicly shame the Utes for destroying 100 years of college football tradition.



That's what I'd do.

Wouldn't matter all that much to me personally we were already going to be doing a 2 for 1 with you guys, and I know it's not exactly the same but it's at least similar.
