Women's Soccer

Post by BoiseBYU »

Congratulations to the BYU women's soccer team. What a stellar season. And who knew that Pac12 refs would be enlisted to ref the Final? Some really bad calls that went against the Cougars and yet it still came down to the last penalty kick....

That offsides call that we scored from, while close, should not have been called. In the years leading up to VAR the EPL instructed it's officials that if it was 50/50 to not call offsides. That FSU player should have had a second yellow. However, there was also a close call where a penalty potentially could have been called against us and was not.

I thought the last PK should have been retaken as it looked like the FSU player came to a complete stop. But she was a really good player who probably makes it a 2nd time as well.

What hurt BYU was that offsides call. I thought she was one. BYU couldn't figure out how to play the ball centrally through Colohan, like they had done all year. FSU knew the key to beating BYU was keeping the ball wide and preventing BYU from cutting inside towards the middle.
