Trickle down impact of BIG10/PAC12 playing conference only
To see the direct impact of the announcement from both the BIG10 and PAC12 to only play conference games this fall, I ran through and evaluated what this does to each conference:
P5 Impact
BIG10 - Cancels 33 home and 8 road, and 1 neutral site game
PAC12 - Cancels 24 home and 11 road, and 1 neutral site game
This has got to be big as far as impact to their TV deals and inventory available to the networks let alone a big hit in revenue. But let's see what it does to the other P5 conferences.
BIG12 - loses 3 home and 2 road games
There isn't a huge impact here as the BIG12 already plays a 9 game conference schedule and typically schedules down for out of conference games.
SEC - loses 1 home and 1 neutral site game
ACC - loses 1 home and 1 road game
Minimal impact to teams in the 8-conference game SEC and ACC leagues.
G5 Impact
MAC - loses 11 road games
HUGE losses for the MAC--all 11 of these games are revenue providing and 4 schools (Bowling Green, Ball State, Central Michigan, and Northern Illinois) lose 2 of these games.
MWC - loses 6 home and 8 road games
With many games scheduled with the PAC12, the MWC takes a big hit as well--losing 14 games including 6 home games. Hawaii is the biggest loser here losing 1 home and 2 road games.
AAC - loses 1 home and 4 road games
It hurts to lose some pay games, but not a huge impact overall. No school loses more than 1 game.
CUSA - loses 2 road games
Sun Belt - loses 2 road games
Each conference loses a couple pay games but not a big impact overall.
Independent Impact
BYU - loses 1 home and 4 road games
Just like that we lose almost half our schedule--but fortunately keep most home games.
Notre Dame - loses 1 road, 1 home, 1 neutral site game
ND loses some big name match ups, but is expected to be okay overall with their ties to the ACC.
New Mexico State - loses 1 road game
UConn - loses 1 home and 1 road game
Army - loses 1 home (Princeton)
Minor impact to these independents. No other independent lost any games.
P5 Impact

I'll say it again, BYU made a mistake not forming a conference with our old rivals.

How many of the disappearing PAC12 games are gimmees?
Is the PAC12 trying to save badly needed money by playing fewer payout games? They lose 30-ish conference wins. With conference-only games there will be exactly the same number of overall wins and overall losses for the conference so more teams will have a losing record. But they'll have more money.
If the season even happens.

We need the Bama game (or another team) to fill Week 2 now. We won't be able to start on time so we've already lost preparation time for Week 1.
BYU PER W/L Since 1972: 432-76 (.850)

I heard team practice starts on Monday. Our Alabama game will be announced after SEC decides what they are going to do.
