I saw an interesting article on Jack Dempsey on Facebook under General Conference. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was raised in Manassa Colorado and was called "The Manassa Mauler. When he took the title from Jess Willard, who outweighed him by more than 55 lbs, it wasn't so much a mauling as one of the worst beatings a heavyweight champion ever took. The article said he was nice to the men he beat after but not during the bout. He was in the first million dollar fight and had more than one of them. Mike Tyson talked about him. He never denied being a Latter Day Saint but claimed to be a "Jack Mormon". The Article claimed he was as famous in his day as Babe Ruth.

Quote I remember from him is along the lines of "I'm proud to be a Mormon, but ashamed to admit I'm a Jack Mormon."
