First NET Rankings Out

The NCAA released the new NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool) rankings for the first time. It replaces their RPI. BYU comes in at #94. Gonzaga was rated #5 while WCC teams Loyola Marymount came in at #10 and San Francisco at #25.

So BYU's performance:

#13 Nevada - Away Loss - Tier 1
#181 Utah Valley - Home Win - Tier 4
#332 Northwestern St. - Home Win - Tier 4
#305 Oral Roberts - Home Win - Tier 4
#347 Alabama A&M - Home Win - Tier 4
#256 Rice - Home Win - Tier 4
#18 Houston Home Loss - Tier 1

Upcoming games:

#178 Illinois St. - Away - Tier 3
#219 Weber St. - Away - Tier 3
#37 Utah St. - Home - Tier 2
#169 Utah - Neutral - Tier 3

Also, regarding BYU's awesome three point shooting, they are #309 nationally (out of 351 teams), at 28.8 percent (51 of 177). The good news is that BYU is #7 in the nation in turnovers at 8.9 per game and are #3 in assist to turnover ratio at 1.98:1.

No starting point makes it not very useful this early in the season. LMU a top 10 team? Sweet.

I have no idea why we struggle with 3 pt shooting. You'd think we would have no difficulty finding a 6'5" kid that can drain 3s.

Are we still blaming it on having an expensive practice facility?

That was the last excuse I heard -- that the Marriott Center was too different from the annex where they practice, in essence, that our fancy practice facility makes it so that playing at home is like playing on the road.

Seriously? That's an excuse.

I thought we needed the facility to attract better recruits that could hit more three pointers.

Things are looking up. Last night our 3pt shooters had as many 3s as Childs. And it only took them 18 more shots. :(

We just lost to a Tier 3 opponent. Someone please remind me how awesome this team is and remind me of your guarentee that we'll make the tournament. Right now I'd put our chances at making the NIT at less than 50%.

It's NIT for us if we're lucky.

Sad, but it looks like Wednesday night's game against USU is a guaranteed loss and Saturday against lowly Utah is a toss up at best. Perhaps Emery will make a difference, though.
