Starting Lineup
I will admit that in August this is way too early speculation, but who gives us the best chance to start games fast and strong and put opponents on their heels? I say:
Point Guard: Carlino
Shooting Guard: Haws
Small Forward: Sharp
Power Forward: Austin
Center: Mika
Point Guard: Carlino
Shooting Guard: Haws
Small Forward: Sharp
Power Forward: Austin
Center: Mika

Re: Starting Lineup
I could see KC playing the 3 in place of Sharp. But I think your other four are correct. KC seems to be a good rebounder as well.

Re: Starting Lineup
In May Qman had this lineup with KC at small forward. We can use them both. Haws and KC can play both positions. They played the 2 forward spots when Davis was contemplating repentance and did well at it. Worthington hopefully will fill in up front but we could use one more heavy guy. I also hope Winder and a couple of other guards get up to speed.RiseShoutCougs wrote:I will admit that in August this is way too early speculation, but who gives us the best chance to start games fast and strong and put opponents on their heels? Re: Starting Lineup
Rose has been very reluctant to play 2 bigs for years... not sure he has a choice now, but Sharp might end up at the 4 and Mika, Austin rotating at the 5. Don't love it, but I could see it.

Or Rose might see the error of his ways and start Austin and Mika.
There is a chance too that Haws stays at the 3 and another guard gets the start- probably someone who will take the toughest defensive assignments.
Hmm the more I think about it the only givens are that Carlino is the PG and Haws will start. It is likely to that Mika and Collinsworth will start.
So
Carlino
Winder or another guard
Haws
Collinsworth
Mika
Is possible.
But I hope we go with
Carlino
Collinsworth
Haws
Austin
Mika.

I like:
Carlino
KC (helping out at PG and freeing Carlino to shoot once in a while)
Haws
Austin ***
Mika
*** IF we have the depth at PF and C to back the starters up.

Re: Starting Lineup
What we would like to see and what we see are two different things.craigoscarson wrote:Rose has been very reluctant to play 2 bigs for years... not sure he has a choice now, but Sharp might end up at the 4 and Mika, Austin rotating at the 5. Don't love it, but I could see it.
Agree, I doubt we see Austin and Mika on the floor together. There is hope Rose has seen the light given he started Austin and Davies during the post season and we did well.
Austin can't hold down the paint on his own. He needs a legit PF with him especially since he has no post up moves. Likewise Mika could benefit from having Austin down low with him too; gives him a veteran to learn from and someone to help take some heat.
IMO the 5 best players should be on the court and they are:
Carlino
Haws
Sharp
Mika
Austin

I wonder if with that line-up BYU would go with a 3-2 zone defense?BlueIsBetter wrote:I like:

Re: Starting Lineup
You could swap KC and Sharp and likely not lose much productivity. I like Haws at the 2. It's what he'd play at the next level too; so, let's give him some experience there. Besides, how long has it been since we've had any production from the 2 whatsoever.BroncoBot wrote:I like that lineup Gunk. Also, I think that Sharp OR Collinsworth would do well at the #3 with that lineup.
