Re: NEW 2020 schedule
So, here's what we know so far--3 confirmed games, 2 should be okay (BSU and Houston) with 2 more still waiting on conferences to decide what they can do:
Sept 7 - BYU @ Navy, ESPN (confirmed)
Oct 2 - USU @ BYU (confirmed)
Oct 16 - Houston @ BYU (should be good -- AAC allowing 4 nonconf games)
Oct 24 - BYU @ No. Ill. (MAC meeting today to discuss 9 conf games + 1 non-conf game schedule)
Nov 6 - BYU @ BSU (BSU has to drop one non-conf game still)
Nov 14 - SDSU @ BYU (confirmed)
Nov 21 - North Alabama @ BYU (Big South conference has not announced firm plans for season yet)
Add to all of this the fact that you won't know a game will actually be played until kickoff because who knows when a player/coach/trainer/tutor will receive a positive COVID result that causes a cancellation.
This really makes me glad we live in a time of DVR so I don't have to block out times/dates for events that might never happen.

Re: NEW 2020 schedule
Schedule to play Hawaii in Provo on 9/19 and keep 9/12 and 9/26 open. It would be both Hawaii's and USU's first games of the season.... and significantly increase the likelihood that BYU can continue to play football at least into October. Keep the BYE in between USU and Houston and again increase the likelihood to get at least 3 home games this fall.snoscythe wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 11:38 am So, here's what we know so far--3 confirmed games, 2 should be okay (BSU and Houston) with 2 more still waiting on conferences to decide what they can do:

Keep the BYE week before Boise to better ensure that game happens.
Add NMSU, Army, and Liberty on 11/21, 11/28, and 12/5 to round out the 10-game schedule. Then, hope that by November things have settled down and we have the opportunity to finish the season.

Re: NEW 2020 schedule
Liberty already has 10 games on their schedule so is not likely to be adding more. New Mexico's governor might be shutting sports down. Still unknowns there.

Re: NEW 2020 schedule
Will FCS Western Carolina play this season?
And, the MAC is meeting today to vote on their season's model, so the AT Bowling Green game is not definitive.
I believe that UMass is also still a question mark. They have games scheduled against both New Mexico and NMSU and a MAC school. They could be down to six schedule games - which is fewer games than UConn had when they decided to throw in the towel.
I wouldn't mind to play Liberty this year. They're a church school and put money and resources into their program....could turn into a decent independent opponent to have on future schedules, so doesn't hurt to build the relationship.

Re: NEW 2020 schedule
Looks like the North Alabama game will be getting axed.
Big Sky and Pioneer Conferences moved their football to the Spring today, which makes it all but certain that the Big South and remaining FCS conferences will follow suit within the next week to preserve the possibility of an FCS Championship.

Re: NEW 2020 schedule
Call me what you will, but I'm glad we're playing Navy in Week 1 and not Alabama. It's still an exciting game in an EXCEPTIONAL timeslot...but, we actually have a chance to win the game.
I note that last year's Labor Day game on ESPN was Notre Dame-Louisville...and it delivered 5.6M viewers....
2018 Labor Day was Florida State-Virginia Tech...which delivered 5.576M viewers.
2017 Labor Day was Tennessee-Georgia Tech, with 5.134M viewers.
Should be a lot of eyeballs for that game this year...an excellent chance for exposure and to get a nice win.
