Has Craigslist always been this bad?

Post by tmoney35 »

I'm selling my '08 HD Night Rod Special on craigslist and the number of scammers contacting me is just ridiculous.

It's been 5-6 years since I've sold a vehicle, but I don't remember being flooded like this before. They seem to be getting better too. Some can even write in halfway decent English

I'm in Lawton, Oklahoma if anyone is looking for a motorcycle!

Craigslist is generally not used very much in Utah, KSL Classifieds online is much more popular, so my experience with how good or bad Craigslist is generally limited. But it's known to me as a place of mainly scammers and perverts.

All online classified platforms are bad, especially with ATVs, UTVs, and motorbikes. They must sit in the sweet spot where the juice is worth the squeeze, but people aren't as careful as when selling a car.

The "I'm-a-doctor-who-moved-out-of-state-so-I-need-someone-I-can-trust-to-rent-my-fabulous-home-for-less-than-half-of-the-market-rate" scam is crazy on the real estate side. You might ask "Who is dumb enough to fall for this?" Well, my sister-in-law has fallen for it twice, and she still looks hard at those ads just desperately wishing for it to be real.

It's like me as shooting light fades on the last day of a buck tag looking over a herd of does for the umpteenth time just praying that I've missed a barely-legal spike buck in the bunch.

I thought you only went to Craigslist if you were trying to find someone to murder your boss or wife?

Yeah, but KSL doesn't allow me to sell my guns. Which I own a ton of.

Even that segment has gone downhill lately. Seems like everyone I contact ends up being a police officer or Dateline reporter instead of a legitimate hitman.

It's only a matter of time until the bad guys on Craigslist figure out that KSL.com is a gun-free zone and move in.
