Final Four Candidates

Those final four candidates shouldn’t be surprising to anyone following the search: Utah Valley head coach Mark Pope, Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Mark Madsen, Portland State head coach Barret Peery and current BYU interim head coach Quincy Lewis.

Madsen, Pope, and then the other two are equal in my book.

Re: Final Four Candidates
I would hate a Lewis promotion. The program needs a culture change, and I don't think promoting the Assistant head coach gets to that level of change.

Re: Final Four Candidates
So they now have to get the "ecclesiastical endorsement" portion of the interview and then acceptable names are referred back to the search committee for a decision. Good to hear it moving forward.

Re: Final Four Candidates
Well if Pope is involved, you know it would be Tuesday at the earliest and more probable on Wednesday. One of the articles lately noting Mark Pope's current contract stated that it included multiple tickets to the Final Four game tomorrow and that such a package is pretty common for Division 1 college coaches. I don't think he chucks the tickets just to satisfy the fans, so even if he was offered and accepted, I would expect we wouldn't have a news conference until mid week.
Now, how much time they might give him to make his decision, I don't know, but if I was BYU, I'd give him only until mid week and then move on. Anyone with that much hesitation I'm really not interested at BYU. The jobs hard enough without a coach bringing in that much reservations about other opportunities.

Re: Final Four Candidates
Honestly, if I am Pope, I think twice about going to BYU. It's more money, but he's going to deal with a bunch more than what he has to at UVU.
He's headed in the right direction with UVU. Another couple seasons at his current trajectory and he could be dancing. That type of success could lead to either more money at UVU or a gig at a "bigger" school that doesn't have the recruiting restrictions of BYU.

Re: Final Four Candidates
I wonder if Mark Pope’s pregame prayer with the team will include the phrase “kick their a**” like it did before the BYU game this year?

Madsen, Madsen, Madsen, Madsen, Madsen, Madsen!
I'm a Cleveland Browns fan and so of course I pull for Mad Dog!
Pope won't disappoint me, if chosen, but I really shine to the Dog.
