The Alliance

Post by Commoner »

The Athletic reports that the AAC, Big Ten, and PAC 12 have reached an agreement and they might make an announcement, as early as next week.

There has been much speculation as to the nature of their collaboration. These are just a few of the possibilities.

A scheduling agreement. Implemented has teams free up their non-conference schedule. It would pair teams based on previous rankings and overall records.

A strategic alliance to force change in the proposed CFP expansion model. It also wants the new arrangement open to all bidders. If the current contract is amended or renegotiated, only ESPN would be allowed to bid. The Alliance wants Fox yo be included.

Mitch Harped suggested that it might involve oversight of all three conferences, replacing the function currently performed by the NCAA. Emmert encouraged the individual sports to create their own regulatory body. The Constitutional Convention will likely change the basic structure of the NCAA to divest itself of all oversight. The Alliance might decide to jump the gun.
