I think that is the point, look at how excited the players were and if the player got that excited recruits might feel the same way. And... BYU able to get the recruits they want really is a big deal.

Many of these players took recruiting trips to schools that had better locker rooms than BYU's. This levels the playing field, removes the sting of disappointment from those who settled for a lesser locker room, and provides bells and whistles for future recruits.
