McNeese Game Thread

Post by cougarnerd »

We almost had that long pass that would have been our longest this season! I thought it looked a little underthrown, but the BYUtv commentators said it was perfectly placed, and that the receiver was looking around and put his hands up wrong and couldn't bring it down. Either way, we need to play with a higher level of execution.

The pass was beautiful, maybe it could've been slightly farther to make it absolutely perfect, but it hit Gunner cleanly in the hands.

Also, Micah Simon can't even catch a pitch now. Why are we running tricks plays against an FCS school anyway?

I love that we took a deep shot on the first play of the game. Gunner had a step and should have caught it. Now let's just stop being cute for a bit and pound the ball

The offense is back to keystone cops early. A drop, 2 fumbles

I'm fine with sitting Squally after the fumble but the same needs to happen with the WRs when they drop a pass.

Quicker side to side, maybe faster in the 40- or 100- dashes, but I don't know if he can drive the pile like a bigger running back.

McNeese is loading the box and bringing blitzes with twists and misdirections that are confusing our offensive line and open lanes for the defense. We need tight ends to go down & out or down & in, behind the linebackers or into the seam, and run a "tight end screen" instead of trying a running back bubble screen. Then try another deep throw to get the dbs to take a few steps back pre-snap.

I agree with that. Drop a pass, miss a play. That's what Bronco would do with fumbles, and guys would try to not fumble it. But since 2010, we have consistently had guys dropping passes. I don't remember that happening much from 2006-2009 when we had good, accurate quarterbacks that would hold the receivers accountable--not to mention guys like Harline, Pitta, Collie, and others who were really good route runners and pass catchers.
