Based on the CC lists it seems the walkons are heavily offensive players while the scholarship guys are mostly defense. I hope that's just coincidence/timing more than Sitaki being a Kwhitt disciple that believes offense is a necessary evil that hopefully just doesn't get in the way.

I'll go with coincidence for now.

I think it has to do with making the switch the 4-3 defense. The defensive recruits he's pulling in make it look like BYU will be in the new defense starting this Fall.

IMHO I don't believe that Detmer would have come along for the ride or stick around if Kalani ever followed such of a plan. Coincidence.

BYU doesn't really need QBs right now, they have three sophomores to be--and they are good ones. These QB walkons are just insurance and...you never know. And there were plenty of offensive scholarship guys signed today

Yeah I think it kind of leveled out by the end. I was looking at the list at the time I thought about it though and at that time it was like 8-2 D to O.

It's also worth noting that some of the scholarship guys may end up on offense, though listed as defense. Some Dl's may end up as OLs and Hifo is listed on BYU's site as a WR. Plus, we have the TE transfer from Notre Dame and the WR RM transfer from Hawaii.

And, straight from his lips, Troy Warner expects to play some offense.

I think you always need QB's and need to recruit some every year. This is why Lavell was so successful, he had the next QB waiting in the wings to take over after the current QB left. The problem during Bronco's tenure was all of his QB's, both starters and backups graduated the same year and there wasn't a replacement that had been in the program for 1 or 2 years to take over seamlessly. BYU has that problem right now with all 3 QB's being Sophomores, they need at least one or two freshmen on next years team. I don't know if they currently have any QB's on missions right now that will return next year or the year after, I hope so to restart that consistency for the position.
