For the umpteenth year in a row.

I thought the whole idea of getting guys that "recruit BYU" and are RM, etc is so we don't have these kinds of issues, because they are a more responsible type of player. (I guess when you throw your players under the bus they tend not to like it.)

Um, yeah, we lost our team leader and the season's been in disarray ever since. Did we think it was all going to be unicorns that cry rainbow tears that play Elton John songs? Everybody is looking for someone to blame, not just the fans.

I've seen a different version of this story...and it sounds like this is a couple weeks old.

The Monty show is also decidely pro-Utah and always looks to put as negative a spin on anything BYU related as possible.

What's funny is that after Holmoe stands up and tells the team Bronco is not going anywhere, Bronco stands up and essentially says, if you're thinking about quitting, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

That said, Holmoe's involvement is a pretty sobering sign of how bad this rift is/was.

Howell needs to go. He has done nothing but throw his players under the bus. They are his players. If they are not performing that is his fault.

My brother was a sports writer for Oregon newspaper and covered the ducks for years. When someone says a source and won't site it, not much to the story at all. I would bet 100 bucks it's was something tiny trying to get blown up.

I take all this with a grain of salt, but when there is smoke there is fire. This is a constant BM cycle and it is getting old.

On another front, this hits recruiting. He has issues with any player that does no humbly come to him and ask to play. That would be ideal but that is not the real world. BM is a horrible recruiter, but he loses way too many LDS kids and does not roll out the red carpet. He supposedly has issues with Porter Gustin, he had issues with other big time recruit. BM needs to get over himself and work with kids like Porter, that is how it works and many schools have guys with big heads that need to be humbled when in the program (as all top 10 schools in recruiting).....without disclosing names BM is not a recruiter, there are current players who went to BYU in spite of BM. He is solid defensive coach, no doubt, but he is a horrible recruiter and does not get guys to want to play for him.

The ideal spot for BM is a d-coordinator at a big time school. He can run the defense, do little recruiting (they have others that can make-up for that), get paid well and not worry about anything else. He is not great with the media, he is not great recruiting, the does not need to be a rah rah guy for the players......he can sit back and coach.

Not to repeat myself, there are no good alternatives to BM at the moment. That could change if we head where we are pointed.

So let's bring in guys like Crowton did? If Bronco feels a guy not gonna work at BYU I trust that. What's the point of bring a guy in and after a semester gets booted because he can't live the lifestyle. BYU lost its leader and nobody is stepping up to fill the void. I coach for a living and I get it as a coach you can only do so much. You need a leader on that field and BYU is void of that right now on offense and defense.

Not sure what you are talking about? I said nothing about lifestyle, re-read the post. I do agree you need leadership and it starts at the top......look at the past with BM and the consistent issues under his tenure (look at the coaching staff).

So you are saying guys like Porter Gustin would get booted? I am talking about rolling out the red carpet for LDS kids who fit, BM does not do that for LDS kids. He is a bad recruiter, tough to argue. He has my way or the highway, he needs to look for the best LDS (or willing to live the HC) kids and go all in, ex: not recruiting Porter because he does not like his Dad.

It is tough when Harbaugh or Carroll are stopping by to visit you and working to get you and BM roles in and says "here is an offer if you come you come, if not good luck". This happened and continues to happen. BYU is not a top 10 program where he can do that, they LDS kids that are top tier recruits have options and at the moment if BM does not work hard player go elsewhere. BM comes across as arrogant and know it all, other top tier coaches try to build relationships and make a place for kids.....BM needs to make BYU the place for top tier LDS kids.

I am NOT talking about bringing in partiers. Please don't change the context, I am not saying become Florida State or bring in kids that don't fit BYU.
