LES vs RES
Utah's blackout last night looked amazing. The fans were loud and constantly on their feet. Television commenter's say it is one of the most difficult places to play in the country. Standing room tickets were going for $140 each. BYU has made some needed changes lately; what more can be done?

Invite the fans to be fans ... not act like they are attending a church meeting.

I must have missed the invitation from BYU where they asked me to act like I'm attending a church meeting when I go to their athletic events.mtnradio wrote:Invite the fans to be fans ... not act like they are attending a church meeting.

It is a unique environment. Starts with a prayer. Fans can't booze it up at a tailgate and come in drunk or bring in booze or even buy a beer or a real coke. Can't piss on opposing fans or scream obscenities. No obscene blow up cheerleader dolls of rival.SpiffCoug wrote:I must have missed the invitation from BYU where they asked me to act like I'm attending a church meeting when I go to their athletic events.mtnradio wrote:Invite the fans to be fans ... not act like they are attending a church meeting.
I like it better at LES, by far.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

Tailgating hardly exists. Sure you could come in after some drinks. They don't do breathalyzer at LES before the game. Apparently we can through stuff at the refs though.Cougarbib wrote:It is a unique environment. Starts with a prayer. Re: LES vs RES
First, it was tongue-in-cheek when I commented about attending a church meeting. But, it is my understanding (from a distance ... I'm in Washington and haven't been to a game at LES for a few years) that much of the tailgate/celebration-type atmosphere is either not allowed or somewhat discouraged. I think that the excitement surrounding the gamenickdutson wrote:Tailgating hardly exists. Sure you could come in after some drinks. They don't do breathalyzer at LES before the game. is missing. Yes, unquestionably winning will fill the stadium (or at least help). But look at teams like Tennessee where they don't win but fill the place and have a grand time doing it. It is an event, a celebration beginning with tailgating and friends, and ends with the game. I guess that is what I was referring to

correct. No breathalyzer tests. But try getting past the gates sloppy drunk, boisterous, and obnoxious. I frequently tailgate at the U and have seen some of the large group so drunk, that they could not even walk across the street to the stadium. I have seen some of the group that never misses the tailgate, but will skip the game if it is cold or wet. The tailgate is the bigger event for some of them. They do have some really good food. Incredible some times. They go all out. I skip the things like marijuana brownies.nickdutson wrote:Tailgating hardly exists. Sure you could come in after some drinks. And.... you need that for a good experience as a fan I suppose? Probably why some of my ute buddies quit taking their kids to the game because of the things they were hearing and seeing.Cougarbib wrote:correct. No breathalyzer tests. To each their own. I'm fine with people drinking etoh before going to a game if they can keep their emotions, mouths and actions respectful. But i've been to enough events to know that a lot of them don't keep it in check, which is one more reason why I enjoy attending BYU games with my family.
