Big T1e1n coaches and AD's want 12 teams

Post by kiwibacon »

Sounds like coaches and AD's of the schools are pressuring the Conference commissioner to expand the conference adding one more school to make it 12.
This could be the catalyst that starts the merry go round as far as major conference shifts in the next few years.

There has always been hope by the fans but now it looks like those in power are now talking about doing it. College football can have a very different landscape in 5 years.

The four leading canidates for that opening are:
Notre Dame
Cincinati
Pitt
West Virginia.

Unless Notre Dame is taken, the Big East is going to take another hit, and people will again wonder if they deserve an automatic bid. If I were a betting man, I bet they take Pitt. They have a great football tradition, and are good in basketball. They also form a natural rival to Penn St.

I'd put Rutgers over all of them except Notre Dame. The New York area interest would be attractive for the confrence. Cincy, WV, and Pitt are just overlap for Penn St. and Ohio St.

I also wouldn't count out Missouri.

Well the big XII reserved the copy right for the Big 14, so I can see the Big 10, moving to Big 12.

1- I sincerely doubt this happens.
2- Notre Dame is the only school that makes sense.
3- Notre Dame is fine without the Big Ten. They don't want in.
4- 11 teams has been HUGELY successful for the Big Ten. They get 2 teams into the BCS almost every year this way, including this year, where they wouldn't otherwise.
5- They already make a ton of money, and have a very profitable network, so almost anyone besides the Irish can't hope to bring enough to the table.
6- Conference commissioners have ZERO say when it comes to expansion. None at all.

Not to mention, Notre Dame already has its own personal network.

I don't think that this happens within the next two years, but I bet it sets the wheels in motion to get a twelfth team to the Big Ten in 3-5 years.
