This Off Season

Post by BYULV »

We have a pretty good idea what our team will be like next year, so what improvements by the players over the summer do you think will help the team most for next year. Here are a few of my thoughts:

1) Davies puts on some weight and matures defensively
2) Hartsock extends his range to include a three point shot
3) Jimmer improves defensively
4) Loyd needs to continue to do what he has been doing, but get better at involving the rest of the team
5) Abouo could just step it up a notch and he would be great.
6) Chris collinsworth needs to get into playing shape quick and get his game back.
7) Kyle Collinsworth - not sure how he'll fare his first year.

I think #1 would be the biggest help to our team's success next season. #2 would also help open things up for us in the middle and provide another wrinkle to our already strong offense.

Any thoughts?

You left out Emery.

Davies - Defense, post up moves and rebounding
Hartsock - Weight room, shooting (I'll settle for a consistent 10 footer) and rebounding
Jimmer - DEFENSE
Loyd - Outside shooting and working the ball around
Abuou - Post up moves and rebounding. He needs to get mean underneath. I could see him becoming the next Keena
Chris - Speed, rebounding and defense
Kyle - Defense (We have scorers. Can't have a liability on the court, though)
Emery - Shooting and ball handling
Haws - Teaching by the spirit

Jimmer- D
Loyd- Assists
Abouo- Basketball smarts (i.e. Not fouling)
Older Collinsworth- Could be our team's premiere rebounder
Younger Collinsworth- Adjust quickly to Div. I college ball
Winder- Blueshirt

Davies- Put on muscle weight- IF he doesn't go on a mission (any chance of that?).

I've heard Davies is hear another year at least. Don't know if a mission is in the plans. That could change quickly though.

There have been several posts re Charles's game and how he looks "lost"sometimes in the offense, and while I've noticed the same thing,I've come to the conclusion that he looks like he's overanalyzing things a little bit.It looks like he knows that Coach Rose has put him in for his rebounding, where he's a beast, and his defense, and therefore he looks a little robotic and hesitant with the ball in his hands.Ironically when he makes a move to the basket and committs to it completely, the results can and often are spectacular. He did however get beat on a drive to the basket by Carlin Brown,I believe, last nite which suprised me a little.

I'm really excited about next year. Obviously we have some things to work on but not as much as other years, IMO.

Davies- Must work on Defense, rebounding, and being more explosive.
Emery- Get stronger, handle the ball better, and finishing at the rim
Jimmer- Defense and overall better shot selection
Hartsock- Explosiveness, rebounding
Abouo- Offense and not fouling as much
C. Collinsworth- Shooting and conditioning
K. Collinsworth- Shooting and learning the offense
Loyd- Getting stronger and controlling his speed even more

Coaching Staff- work on rebounding and low post play

I actually like the prospect of Anson Winder playing the 2 for us next year behind Emery. I believe Nick Martineau is returning from a mission but I wasn't all that impressed when he was here his freshman year. He's the second coming of Matt Pinegar and if anyone should be Blue-shirted it's Martineau. We DESPERATELY need a JC post transfer to help Davies out next year. Anderson just isn't going to cut it and Hartsock plays like a chick on offense in the low post. That aside, Hartsock is a blocking machine on the defensive end and does have a decent 15 foot jumper which I wish we would incorporate more into our offense.

Which we were incorporating into the offense earlier in the year when he was hitting it. He's gotten very inconsistent with his shot recently as demonstrated by 0-1 vs Utah, 4-8 vs UNM, 0-5 vs SDSU, and 1-4 vs Wyo. If he finds his shot again, he'll be utilized more again.

It's silly to feed it to a guy more when his percentages start dropping. You feed the hottest hand the most.
