I'd be in favor of implementing a law that makes law enforcement liable for not protecting the public. If they have reasonable suspicion to believe that someone is a danger to themselves or others and they do not respond, they should be liable. The FBI would no longer be ignoring calls like the ones they had been receiving for months before the Florida shooting.

Interesting idea. I'd be willing to consider it. Help me understand though--had the FBI followed up, what could they have done? He had not committed a federal crime, right?, So they could not have arrested him or taken away his guns, or is that just wrong? I really do not know.

Abolish schools to end school shootings. Sorry if you interpret that as another no.

You don't hear about this sort of thing at private schools and there's a reason for that. People should evaluate those reasons. At the very least we should expect the children being educated to pay for their education. There is ample evidence that when people are invested in their learning they perform better scholastically. The private schools in my area tout the fact that they will immediately expel anyone involved in a gang. And gang violence at schools is a much bigger deal than these one off shootings. The chances of being attacked by another student or the victim of any crime is much lower at private schools.

We also have to consider that your chances of being shot at a school are still less than your chances of being struck by lightning.

This will never happen. The police unions will destroy anyone who thinks they should be responsible for their actions even financially, let alone criminally.

Abolish free public education? That would be the single worst thing our county had ever done. It would tank the economy, increase crime and violence, and eventually drop us down to a 2nd-world nation.

Some FBI statistics on Murders and the weapons used, 2015. With all the chatter about banning AR-15's, I thought it would be interesting to look at some comparisons. You'll notice that murder by rifle is down the list.

Handgun - 6,447
Knives - 1,544
Hands, fists, feet - 624
Blunt objects - 437 (clubs, baseball bats)
Shotgun - 269
Rifle - 252

Because you have data to back that up? Go check the data on individuals, even very poor ones, who pay for their own education. Then come back and let us know what you find. it can be like one of those reports you did in one of your government schools.

How about you back up any of your knee jerk reactions with a shred of data showing they'll have the slightest impact and then rejoin the conversation.

That kind of cuts both ways. If you had any data to support the idea that less education is better I'd love to see that

Abolish schools to end school shootings.
I know how to stop abortions too . . .

So much for "practical" solutions.

There are hundreds of studies showing the positive link between high GDP and high educational spending (and between low GDP and low educational spending). Here's one:
