Who would BYU fire?

BYU has been bad on defense for several years now. When there's a problem for a long time it's on the head coach.

So, you want to fire Rose?
Or maybe it's that we still haven't found a good one? To fire Rose would be so insulting and send a message of ingratitude for all the great accomplishments he has brought to BYU? At some point we have to be unsatisfied with mediocrity. C'mon. Losing to UVU ??? That is beyond pathetic. Everyone is laughing at us. Who's next? Mountain View JV beating us in scrimmages?
However dramatic I may be... this loss is absolutely inexcusable.

Gross. Huge embarrassment. I've been a huge defender of Rose, but the last few years he's been losing games he has no business losing. It may be time to start looking for a new HC.

He's got no control of his players. Letting Jimmer run around and do whatever he wanted set a bad precedent. Everyone wants to be the next Jimmer. No hussle on defense, little team ball on the offensive side.

I haven't seen the UVU game yet but Rose generally builds his rotations (and recruiting) around offensive prowess. And generally we don't have enough great athletes on the perimeter to play great D.

Also on a strange aside how can the same strength program have Aytes and Kyle Davis? One is approaching body-builder status and the other appears to be allergic to the weight room.

This is really strange- I have noticed the same thing. I always wonder why don't you just pull whoever for a minute and let him know he took a terrible shot. It isn't like we don't have enough depth to absorb a few teaching moments.

Rose, I think isn't very good at managing his rotation. Case in point, against Valpo Guin went 3/3 from behind the arc and made some clutch shots. When we needed a 3 most, Rose sits him. I'd much rather have players like Guin on the court that give you 100% and play within the game then players that are out there to impress scouts and break records.

We have had much better TEAMS with significantly less talent on the court. Something is up.

One thing that is up is--among other things--
-Young, talented team:mistakes/turnovers abound (22 last night). They think talent should overcome superior teamwork.
-Cocky team: a little or a lot of hubris last night with recent successes and it was supposed to be little old UVU. I think our team thought they would roll.
-UVU shot 52%. They had excellent ball movement and played out of their heads. But this is a good UVU team.
-chips on shoulders: Pope, Nielson, Toolson at a minimum and certainly other scrubs passed over by BYU.

On the more speculative, if not conspiratorial side:
-division among these coaches. Pope left bc Lewis is heir apparent. Lewis doesn't like coaching for Rose. Doesn't like being second fiddle to Terry Nashif, let alone being subjugated to Defensive coach???? What???
Lewis is the D coach: A hugely offensive minded coach having to to be a defensive specialist?? Since when was LP a defensive oriented team?? They out-scored the snot out of most of their opponents. And other than Mika looking pretty strong on D in the post--except when wussy-ars refs call Mickey Mouse fouls (happened again last night on several fouls) Emery is a shade of his brother but was getting sloaghtered by UVU guards driving right past him--he's looking more like Jimmer than Jackson; TJ is getting pushed around like a lap-doll, and Voila, LP guys are weak on D. Look what Frank Jackson is looking like at Duke, great on O, weaker on D. Pattern.
-Davis is a defensive liability all by himself. He often starts games lazy and weak.
-Our bigs have problems with fouling too much. Antes is kind of a waste. We need Kaufusi and more PT by Dastrup (sans stupid turnovers).
-Rose is tired. This is his last hurrah, the next few years with this group. And the ride into the sunset has begun. And credit him for hanging in there with cancer recovery. But I think he's tired. I could be wrong.
-Team chemistry is bad. It's why some guys bailed, like Chapman and knew LP3 would be the dominant core of this team, for better or for worse. There is a selfishness that has unveiled itself with Emery and Elijah being the worst culprits. There appears to not be a good chemistry between Emery and LJ either.
-Mika better become a really good passer really quick. He is struggling g over the last few games when he gets doubled down on.
SCHEME. They need to pull out the triangle offense from the Lakers and Shaq days. When Mika posts, Davis needs to clear out and away from the key. Mika is getting blind side doubles and can't see them coming and then there is doubt and hesitancy where to go with the ball. There were some improvements vs UVU, but he still looks baffled. Replace Davis with a shooter and spread the floor and ryan some damn ball movement. Could really have used Hartsock this year bc he was good at 3's. But he bailed to for "academics" and I think he just saw the writing on the wall and bailed on the team.

Those are my thoughts on what's happening.

Bottom line, is this team is very beatable.

I haven't uploaded my game PERs for the last few games. Just been really busy getting the house ready to sell. Anyway, here's the UVU game:

And the season summary so far:

I can post the SLU and Valparaiso games too if anyone wants to see those.

I thought it was a mistake to hire Lewis.

I think the Lone Peak boys are too comfortable.

Fire Rose.

In 2010, our defense was so bad that after giving up 1,168 yards rushing over 4 games (292 on average), BYU fired defensive coordinator Jaime Hill.

In 2013, after giving up 550 yards rushing to BYU, Texas fired defensive coordinator Jaime Hill.

BYU should fire their defensive coordinator.

I guess this game answers the question of whether or not the best high school team could beat the worst college team.
