Not a ton of MWC basketball in HD this season. But some: http://www.themwc.com/sports/m-baskbl/s ... 09aab.html

Including SDSU @ BYU and BYU @ Utah.

Last season, all of the later rounds of the conference tournament were also in HD.

What is holding back the MTN from broadcasting all in HD????? Can they only afford 1 camera and lug it around in a van between various basketball and football games, and rent it on KSL.com on the days that there are no games to pay for it?

I just don't understand why they aren't all in HD at this point.

The camera's aren't the problem--it's the production truck that is holding them back. You need an HD ready production truck to run the broadcast, and the station would need at least three to run things, probably more (three football games a weekend = three trucks, and they could hopefully schedule things to make the logistics of basketball work out). They are a few million dollars a piece, which is understandably hard for the MTN to come up with. Currently the MTN only owns second hand SD capable trucks.

The HD broadcasts they do now are done with rented trucks--I believe they have been renting MLB trucks, which is why the HD only picks up after the world series.

I don't think basketball draws enough eyeballs to the screen at this point to make it worth it for the MTN to rent trucks for HD broadcasts. I'd rather they save up and get their own trucks.

Renting is likely their current strategy (thanks for pointing that out Sno).

Remember, they did a HD triple-header on the Mtn. in football not too long ago, broadcasting from three seperate locations. It's probably a bit pricey for them to do so though.

Thanks for the answer. I was half-kidding about the camera. I figured it had to be something with equipment.

Wow, couple million a piece for a truck? Hope it comes with enough cupholders.

In my opinion, they should try and future proof things and get at least one SS3D truck. Can you imagine how many people would tune in to watch MWC sports if we had them in 1080p stereoscopic 3D next november When thenew tvs hit the market? I watch mundane tv sometimes simply because it is in hd....I would watch div-III preseason football if it was available in 3D!!!!
