Taysom Hill starting/Riley out indefinitely
First let me say that this is not hearsay or speculation, Taysom Hill is starting and looks to be for the rest of the year. I talked to 3 football players today and they have informed and confirmed to me that Riley Nelson is seriously injured. The x-ray came back and Riley has been playing with 3 broken vertebra, since the Weber St game where this occurred. This has not come out yet, but I expect it to soon from Bronco later next week. I only post this so you guys are informed of what actually is going on and how serious the injury is with RIley. Lastly, the 3 football players told me that Riley is likely out for the year, not speculation strictly fact take it for what it is worth. Time to move on with Taysom Hill for the rest of the year! Let's get that W against Hawaii today!

If the kid was honestly playing with broken vertebrae, someone needs to be fired for letting him play.
Even if not for a medical liability standpoint, from a dumb@$$ personnel decision standpoint in trying to win games.

What team physician let that slide. Your back hurts, you get an X-ray. Another serious blow and Riley could have been in a wheel chair the rest of his life.

THIS! If this is true, then someone high up needs to be fired. That is outrageous.snoscythe wrote:If the kid was honestly playing with broken vertebrae, someone needs to be fired for letting him play.

Re: Taysom Hill starting/Riley out indefinitely
I was sitting at the utah game prior to it starting and read a tweet from gunther who said he heard riley has cracked vertebrae. how the hell would he know that then if riley didn't know that then. this could turn into a rather serious issue if all this is true. serious malpractice going on. if riley would have broken his back that would have been the end of byu sports. what the hell is going on. this is really making me mad.
I have a hard time believing this is even true.

Re: Taysom Hill starting/Riley out indefinitely
This is what someone from UteFans told me on Tuesday-
It's not a debilitating injury, but it is incredibly painful and can only be treated with painkillers. He has 3 broken spinous process in his lumbar region.
And this description-
"This is a common injury and is known as a "clay shoveler's fracture." (When clay used to be shoveled by hand, the workers would pull up hard and tear off their spinous process). The spinous process does not impart any structural support to the spine and is not needed. Therefore, there is no reason to operate or remove this bone. The bone will not heal to itself, but will form a fibrous union. This is really more of a ligamentous injury than a bony injury and a bony union is not needed. It will hurt for months but the pain will eventually improve. Please ask your surgeon if this is a spinous process or a "clay shoveler's fracture".
I have no idea his source or if it's true but it sounds reasonable and maybe why he tried to play through it.
