"Y" Mountain Run
I did my weekly run/hike/crawl up to the "Y" this morning. Saw the football team as they were on their way back down. I don't know who was first to the top of the Y, but I did it in 25:45. I think last year the winner was at around 17 minutes. If you have never done the "Y" climb, I highly suggest it. A thousand feet up in one mile is quite difficult. But it's got quite the view.
I be surprised if the team does much at practice today as that climb takes a lot out of you.

I did that run once in college. Promised to never do it again! That was a killer run.

Yeah, 1000 foot climb in just under a mile is STEEP and not fun. But it's a great workout.

Re: "Y" Mountain Run
Looks like it was Matt Marshall who won the race up according to Jay Drew.
http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogs/byus ... s.html.csp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; As mentioned earlier, receiver Matt Marshall won the race up to the Y on the mountain. Marshall was clocked at 16 minutes, 8 seconds, which is a record. The old record, set by McKay Jacobson, was 16:30.
Marshall said he almost passed out after the hitting the finish line.

I did it as a group wearing weighted backpacks (50 pounds) once. Not fun.kitic77 wrote:Yeah, 1000 foot climb in just under a mile is STEEP and not fun. But it's a great workout.
I did it another time with a blanket, picnic lunch, and a laptop. A girl and I then watched "The Other Side of Heaven" at the top. That was much more fun.

HA! Try going up 2500 feet over three miles with 85 pounds! That was our longest march to our OP in Afghanistan in 2008. Oh, and our starting elevation was 6885 feet.

Re: "Y" Mountain Run
Wow... We are young! I didn't realize we were that young.Regarding the youth of the team, Mendenhall said he took a quick glance at the roster the other day to guess which 64 guys would make the travel squad for MWC conference games. He said at first blush, 50 of those players would be either freshmen or sophomores.
I like it!said this year's team "practices like it has a chip on its shoulder."

Just imagine in two years when those 50 are juniors and seniors and have 20-25 games under their belt!BigCougsFan wrote:Wow... We are young!
