Big 12 making a major play to stay together.
According to Orangebloods.com/ Chip Brown, the BIg 12 is making a major play in keeping the conference together.
This would be huge and might be what it takes to keep them all together. However, it would also mean no new teams to the Big 12 (10).
http://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1093803--Beebe has secured information that enough money could be inked in its next TV negotiation (in 2011) that revenues per school would jump from between $7 million and $10 million in the Big 12 currently to $17 million, which is what the SEC pays out.

Not sure why they would want to stay at 10 teams, though. That part of it makes little sense. I would think adding BYU helps them across the board, just don't know what other school can as well. SLC is a larger market than Omaha, not as big as Denver, though. TCU, SMU and Houston won't, nor will Tulsa. AFA won't. Colorado State or UNM won't. Utah would be PAC10 bound, so they are out Getting to 12 teams seems vital, and figuring out the 12th seems like a big sticking point. Louisville, perhaps? Or maybe go after Arkansas with equal $$?

The only thing I can consider is that the 17 million payout drops a bit to compensate for the two additional teams.

Not only that, but doesn't the Big XII rely on their Championship game???
A lot of their revenue comes from that game. They can't have a Championship game with 10 schools. They need 12.
