2023? Seriously...ugh.

I've lost all faith in Holmoe's ability as AD.

I see this as a result of the current situation more than as a reward for Sitake. BYU's nonsense rule about the Head Coach having to be a Church member limits the pool of candidates so much that there is really no option. Lance Anderson is a nice coach, but has he really got more going for him that Sitake had at his hire?

If so, its only marginal. So do you keep a coach that is massively popular with his team and the polynesian recruiting base, or roll the dice on the unknown? The team is better than last year.

There is simply no reason to require the HC to be a member. A non-member coach could keep the Honor Code, and would be gone if he did not, just as Sitake will be gone if he violates the Honor Code. This would open up the pool of candidates and allow our advantages over the G5 (facilities, visibility, TV contract) to be actual strengths. Good candidates who want to improve and get to P5 jobs could see BYU as a great place to be.

Otherwise, you have no choice but to extend a good (not great yet) coach.

Yep, exactly. TH is so excited about this extension because he just made his own job easier of not having to find a new LDS head coach. It's more about there aren't a lot of options than how great Sitake is. I wish I could get rewarded by my boss for being a great guy but an average worker...

The story all over sports radio (Hans Olsen) is that Holmoe wasn't the reason for the extension coming so late and certainly isn't the one who can just make a decision and run with it. BYU has its chain of approvals and they only recently got the okay to move ahead.
I just hope it means we don't have to spend so much board time debating whether or not he should be the coach.

I am encouraged by Kalani's ability to win games that we don't normally win.

Before Kalani, BYU lost 13 straight in road games against P5 teams that finish with a winning record. Kalani lost his first two before beating Wisconsin. Wisconsin marked only the 2nd BYU road win vs. a P5 that finished with 8 wins or more. Tennessee may prove to be the 3rd such win in program history if they win out.

Over the last 20 years BYU is 4-38 vs. all teams that win 10 wins or more. Kalani will likely increase that win total assuming Boise St. wins 1 more game.

If USC wins 8 games, Kalani will improve BYU's all time home record vs. P5s with 8+ wins to 4-11. If USC wins 9 games, it will only be BYU's 4th win ever against a 9 win or better P5 and only the 2nd home win.

I hope he is willing to adjust further. He is far from perfect, but he's winning games we just don't win.

...and losing at home to UMASS and other dregs of the FBS, in other words, losing games we just don't lose.

That's not unique to Sitake's tenure. The Bronco days had those games too.
Nevada (twice), San Jose State, Tulsa

But the most disappointing loses were when they SHOULD have performed much better than they did--lest we forget--here are the top 10 most disappointing Bronco losses.

There is also the 4-game run in 2014 when the ranked #18/19 BYU Cougars lost to Utah State--then went on to lose 3 more consecutive games to G5 teams in UCF, Nevada, and Boise State before finally defeating Middle Tennessee to end the skid. Yes, Taysom Hill and Jamaal Williams were injured during that time, but losing to 4 G5 teams in a row when you are ranked was shocking and had people calling for Bronco's job then.

Apparently the extension was made possible by a multi-million dollar donation from the Crimson Club to keep Kalani at the helm.
  Good one!!
