Re: byu vs utah
After beating Utah, BYU's RPI jumped to 47 according to Real Time RPI.
Next two games should be wins. Big test will be on Dec. 30th against SMC.

Re: byu vs utah
Even after watching the game live in-person I had to watch it on ESPN replay tonight just for Bill Walton. He did not disappoint. Some of my favorites:
After Childs scored two early baskets Bill says, "This is the best I've ever seen Childs play." The other guy (Roxy) then says, "Bill, this is the first time you've seen Childs play." Those two are so great together. This would actually happen quite a few times with different players but same basic quote. I guess it got a little old at the end but it was quite funny at first.
When Cannon hit a 3: "Milk this!" (they had just talked about how Cannon grew up on a dairy farm).
So here's how Utah ranks:
ESPN pre-season ranking: #55
RPI: #50
KenPom: #61
BYU:
ESPN pre-season ranking: #87
RPI: #46
KenPom: #66
Here's the much awaited PER: Even though the box score shows Bryant played all 40 minutes during the post game interview on the radio Coach Rose said that Bryant actually sat on the bench for 30 seconds of game time plus it was back-to-back with a timeout. Still, that's a lot of minutes and hopefully he gets some rest in the next two games.
I still think Childs injury was a cramp. At least the first time he was visibly holding his calf not his ankle and he was getting it stretched. Not quite so sure about the second one.
Here is our season PER: With that performance Bryant takes the top spot for the season.
And here is our tournament resume: So we are 2-1 with one good win and zero bad losses. It is frustrating to see that KenPom has Utah above us despite us just beating them but oh well, we know who's better!

Re: byu vs utah
I disagree that the utes weren't dominant during their win streak. If you remember, they would jump on us early and get big leads. BYU would usually fight back and get it to a respectable end of game score but were never really in a position to win the games. This game was satisfying because the team took control early and the utes were never really going to win the game even when they got it back to within 5 a couple of times because of BYU's defense. IMO Heath Schroyer has made a big difference with this team over the last few with his defensive coaching. He was a great hire.

Great solid win by the Cougars as we wrap up non-conference play. I hope BYU can continue forward with the momentum they've built up and avoid laying an egg against sub 200 teams in the WCC like years past!

I think the effort and execution are going to be there this year, and we will take care of business.

BYU needs to win the WCC this year.
BYU is capable of winning the WCC this year.
Don't drop any of the non SMC or Gonzaga games.
SMC and Gonzaga are vulnerable right now.
