Emery charged with Improper Benefits
Read the article for yourself.
http://www.sltrib.com/sports/2017/10/27 ... um=twitter
In short, it charges that Nick Emery was befriended by a Cougar Club member after his divorce. The 40-year old male, a 2001 graduate from BYU, gave Emery a car he had bought and took him on vacations to California and Canada, including two concerts and two theme parks. The 2017 VW Jetta ownership has been moved from the Cougar Club member's name to Nick's parents now, though Nick seems to be the main driver. That man states that Nick paid for at least some part of those travels.
Hard to imagine Emery playing at all this season, given the charges.

Re: Emery charged with Improper Benefits
Only a big deal if Emery didn't pay his own way to those places. The article admits there are receipts showing he paid for some things. Hopefully gets cleared up fast and isn't a true booster favor thing.

sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh.
Sometimes I wonder if these "friends" know what a precarious position they put these athletes in. How have they not learned yet?

I'm glad this has finally come out. I was very surprised to see Emery playing in the blue/white scrimmage game with all this going on. I think Boosters (of which basically everyone who is a fan is) need to chill out and not try to buy friendships with young kids. It's frankly creepy.

The biggest issue for me would be the car.
It was leased by Tyndall, and then shows up registered in Emery's parents' names, and now Emery is driving it around, and it's still a leased car?

I'm mostly surprised this hasn't happened sooner.
I know of other similar situations with the hoops players, and there have even been ballers living in guest houses of boosters in Mapleton while renting an apartment in Provo to keep up appearances.
That's where the worm can turn quickly here -- I doubt the NCAA restricts their investigation to Nick Emery alone here.

Re: Emery charged with Improper Benefits
I know of at least one other problematic basketball booster not yet mentioned in the news.
To be fair though, there's more football stuff that hasn't come out yet either. So... Yay!
