Troubled BYU football player Francis Bernard, who is redshirting this season after running afoul of the school’s honor code last season and last summer, was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of DUI.
Bernard, who played running back for the Cougars in 2015 and linebacker in 2016 before being suspended prior to the 2016 Poinsettia Bowl, was booked into the Utah County Jail and also ticketed for driving without a valid license and failure to have proper registration.
According to jail documents, Bernard was booked at 2:30 a.m. Saturday and released 90 minutes later.

In late August, a video was released by the website MormonLeaks.com that shows a heated conversation between Bernard and Provo police officers in December of 2016.
Bernard was found guilty in January of 2017 of noise disturbance stemming from an Aug. 14, 2016 incident, a class B misdemeanor. He was fined $150 and placed on probation, court records show.
He pled guilty in April of 2017 to a charge of disorderly conduct, a class C misdemeanor, and paid an additional $150 fine from an incident that happened on Dec. 4, 2016. The charge was reduced to an infraction.

The KSL story says senior DB Marvin Hifo was a passenger and cited for having an open container. He must not have been on the travel team? But it could involve him too.

Drunk driving is a terrible thing, people get killed by drunk drivers every day. Bernard needs to get help and I pray he can turn this life around. Football no longer matters.

Re: Francis Bernard gets DUI this weekend, might be done at BYU
I got thinking about this because FB is not a current BYU student as he did not enroll in Fall 2017. So the problem becomes that he needs to resolve his legal issue (drunk driving arrest) before even being considered. And if he was already facing discipline that caused him to redshirt and not enroll that also aggravates his honor code standing for re-admittance. It wouldn't surprise me to see him miss out on 2018 with legal issues, then land somewhere like Utah for his final season of eligibility.
Marvin Hifo on the other hand is on the team and in his senior year of eligibility. I would expect that this means he doesn't play the rest of the year if he isn't dismissed from the team or school (don't know how deep the issues here are).
In the end, this really only impacts plans to have FB back on the team next year. So his absence opens up another scholarship for use elsewhere.

And not as if we need any proof, but the 25 year old who hit Harvey Langi and his wife seriously injuring them last week has been charged with a DUI and open container.
