Back by popular demand! (And my apologies for being so derelict in my duties.)

Here is how BYU has performed against the season averages of our opponents. As always, I've taken the BYU game out of the equation of our opponents' averages. Each opponent has now played at least five non-BYU games so it's a decent enough sample size.

Portland St
The Pilots scored 6 points which was 19.3 points below their scoring average (25.3).
The Pilots' 220 total yards on offense was 239.8 yards below their average (459.8 ).
The Pilots gained 86 yards rushing which was 147.5 yards below their average (233.5).
The Pilots gained 134 yards passing which was 92.3 yards below their average (226.3).
The Pilots PER was 79.32 which was 27.29 points below their PER average (106.61).

BYU's 20 points was 16.8 fewer points than Pilots defensive scoring average (36.8.
BYU's 365 total yards on offense was 71.3 yards fewer than Pilots total defense average (436.3).
BYU's 171 yards rushing was 54.3 fewer yards than Pilots rushing defense average (225.3).
BYU's 194 yards passing was 17 fewer yards than Pilots passing defense average (211.0).
BYU's PER was 131.84 which was 7.59 points below Pilots PER defense average (139.42).

LSU
The Tigers scored 27 points which was 2 points above their scoring average (25.0).
The Tigers' 479 total yards on offense was 97.6 yards above their average (381.4).
The Tigers gained 294 yards rushing which was 116.8 yards above their average (177.2).

The Tigers gained 185 yards passing which was 19.2 yards below their average (204.2).
The Tigers PER was 169.67 which was 26.56 points above their PER average (146.62).

BYU's 0 points which was 22.6 fewer points than the Tigers defensive scoring average (22.6).
BYU's 97 total yards was 254.2 yards fewer than Tigers total defense average (351.2).
BYU's -5 yards rushing was 170.8 fewer yards than the Tigers rushing defense average (165.8 ).
BYU's 102 yards passing was 83.4 fewer yards than the Tigers passing defense average (185.4).

The Utes gained 116 yards rushing which was 56 yards below their average (172.0).
The Utes gained 314 yards passing which was 55.3 yards below their average (258.8 ).
The Utes PER was 146.96 which was 13.6 points above their PER average (136.14).

BYU's 13 points which was 6.8 fewer points than Utes defensive scoring average (19.8 ).
BYU's 233 total yards was 101.3 yards fewer than Utes total defense average (334.3).
BYU's 63 rush yards was 57.3 fewer yards than Utes rush defense average (120.3).
BYU's 170 yards passing was 44.0 fewer yards than Utes pass defense average (214.0).
BYU's PER was 83.54 which was 20.86 points below the Utes PER defense average (104.40).

Wisconsin
The Badgers' 40 points was 0.3 points above their scoring average (40.3).

BYU's 24 points was 7.0 fewer points than Aggies' defensive scoring average (31.0).
BYU's 396 total yards was 12.0 yards fewer than Aggies' total defense average (408.0).

BYU's 210 yards rushing was 17.6 more yards than Aggies' rushing defense average (192.4).
BYU's 186 yards passing was 29.6 fewer yards than Aggies' passing defense average (215.6).
BYU's PER was 90.43 which was 50.58 points below the Aggies' PER defense average (141.01).


Boise St
The Broncos' scored 24 points which was 5.8 points below their scoring average (29.8.
The Broncos' 300 total yards on offense was 51.3 yards below their average (351.3).

The Broncos' 158 yards rushing was 41.0 yards above their average (117.0).
The Broncos' 142 yards passing was 92.3 yards below their average (234.3).
The Broncos' PER was 131.14 which was 0.31 points below their PER average (131.45).


BYU's 7 points was 22.0 fewer points than the Broncos' defensive scoring average (29.0).
BYU's 238 total yards was 108.8 yards fewer than the Broncos' total defense average (346.8.
BYU's 66 yards rushing was 40.6 fewer yards than Broncos' rush defense average (115.8 ).
BYU's 172 yards passing was 59.0 fewer yards than Broncos' pass defense average (231.0).
BYU's PER was 82.29 which was 44.91 points below the Broncos' PER defense average (127.20).

That's right. The BYU offense has beaten an opponents in just ONE of the possible 30 categories this season. It is catastrophically bad this year. The defense has tried its best and been at least decent. But the offense is so abysmal that it is shocking. I have never seen such ineptitude.

so defense hovers close to average against opponents and offense has been abysmal.

If offense was doing the same, we could have some wins.

This explains the 6 game losing skid, BYU coaches didn't have the statistical data they needed to make adjustments!
