Looks like he might be joining the team this summer.

I still don't know if this is a really good thing or that there is just hope that he brings good game.

Brave kid -- word out of Spring camp is that BYU is going to be making cuts from the defensive backfield going into Fall Camp, so he's coming into a situation where there are already more bodies than spots on the roster.

He wouldn't be getting a scholarship offer and committing if there was no place for him though, would he? Otherwise it would have been easy for the coaches to not offer him and that would be solved.

In looking over the depth chart, there are several upper class man walk-ons outside of the 2-deep who potentially (in my opinion) are targets for cuts:
CB
Cody Stewart (Senior)
Hiva Lee (Senior)
Sawyer Powell (Senior)
Safety
Kamel Greene (Senior)
BJ Fifita (Junior)
Marvin Hifo (Junior)
Gavin Fowler (Senior)* rehabbing from his 2nd ACL tear

The defensive backfield is adding 5 new players in the fall (Keenan Ellis, Chaz Ah You, Ammon Hannemann, D'Angelo Gunter, and Tre Greene) and most of the depth guys at other positions are freshmen or sophomores so these older guys unable to crack the depth chart are prime for cuts to get to the roster limits.
One side note is assuming Greene makes the team this fall, he would be the biggest DB/S on the roster (6'4", 190) just edging out Sam Baldwin (6'3", 196) and Cody Stewart (6'3", 185). Hiva Lee and Michael Shelton are both listed at 5'8".

He’s incredibly fast – there are reports that he ran a 4.39 40-yard dash. And his tape shows that he’s a real athlete. He played some wide receiver in high school, and there’s a real chance Sitake and Co. moves him back to offense.

The Cougars are in desperate need of athletes at the wide receiver spots, and recruiting at those positions has always been difficult for BYU.

So, what do you do? You look to the junior college ranks.

If he remains on the defensive side of the ball, Greene would be one heck of an addition to an already stout secondary. He’s got three years to play three seasons, so he’ll be eligible when he arrives on campus this fall.

He’s a really good press corner, who is adept at opening his hips and turning with receivers. He doesn’t seem like a player that will get beat deep often. Greene also has experience returning kicks, which may prove helpful.

All in all, Greene is a very strong get for the Cougars. He’s a dynamic athlete and will likely fight for playing time early.

The idea of having a receiver who has played DB (if he has hands) is very positive to me. The receivers really need some toughness, someone who acts like they want the ball more than the defense does.

Last year Trevor Matich used to say that if you wanted to convince a jury that the BYU receivers wanted the ball more than the defense, you wouldn't have had enough evidence.

Everyone wanted to put interceptions and dropped balls on the QB but in the bowl game I distinctly remember a ball bouncing off of Moroni"s facemask on a pass over the middle. I guess the ball was wet then though
