BYU v. UT-A NIT Tip-off moved to 9pm

Post by snoscythe »

Evidently ESPN and the NCAA bought into the over-hype of this blizzard and delayed the start of the Syracuse game, so BYU's Wednesday night game has been pushed back to a 9:00pm tip-off in Provo.

This means two things:
1) I think BYU's edge just widened a bit. It's a 10pm tip for the UT-A team's internal clocks, and BYU is used to playing stupidly late games in the WCC (both at home and traveling to the left coast). Should really become a factor in the second half.

2) I am in deep poopy-doo with the wife because we have tickets for the whole family, which means the four kids (ages 4 to 10) with a normal bed time of 8:30 will now be up until about midnight on a school night.

I think this just sucks to make a change like that the day before. Honestly, I get up at 4 to go to work and I would not have bought tickets to a 9 PM game!

Yeah I bought two tickets with the intention of bringing my son (11) but I live an hour away so it will be a very late night if the wife decides to still let him go (I just found out about the time change and she doesn't know yet). I have not yet received an email from BYU Tickets about the time change...

They just blew much opportunity in selling out the lower bowl. It's been interesting. As soon as the general public tickets opened up I quickly snatch 4 lower bowl tickets on the sides (sections 8, 9, 10, 19, 20 or 21), but there were still upper lower bowl seats in the "behind basket" ends. From that point in the 12 noon hour on Monday, there have been little more tickets sold. Maybe, if we get by UT-Arlington, the next game will sell better, but I believe the numbers are reflective of what the fans feel about the team.

The next game may be at #2 Houston so even if we win there may be no more home teams.

Well the wife just overruled and said that the game is too late for my son. So I now have an extra ticket if anyone lives between Stansbury Park and Provo I can pick them up on the way...

Isn't Houston playing on the road for their game because their arena is under renovation? So we may have two more home games - since Cal lost. We could be the highest seed with a viable home court.

They are playing at a nearby venue, which they would probably continue to do, so as to still maintain some form of home court advantage.

UH doesn't seem to have much of a homecourt crowd anyway. At least I remember the LJ Rose highlights I saw when he announced his transfer to BYU always seemed to show mostly empty seats.

Here is Houston's attendance at their last five home games:
vs Tulane - 3,421
vs Temple - 3,627
vs UCF - 3,681
vs SMU - 8,479
vs Conn - 4,131

That's not the worst case scenario. SMU was a ranked team, so the campus/community responded a bit more.
