Blown Perfect Game

Discussion for professional sporting events/teams and players.

This would be a great place to discuss the Super Bowl, the NBA Playoffs or whatever else.

I think you gotta let it stand. Saves the debate on revisiting other blown-calls.

Do implement instant replay also, but limited situations--say 3rd outs.

one of the hallmarks of baseball is that it's still human. They don't pour over every call like football, or install microchips in the pucks like they did in Hockey. Part of the game is dealing with an inconsistent strike zone, bad calls, and old men men who like to yell at other old men.

Part of the game folks.

And, the worst thing Selig could have done would be to reverse the call. Can you imagine what his office would be like everytime and anytime there was a questionable call in any of the hundreds of games that are played? he'd never get a moment's peace. Slippery slope!

There is no reason to oppose replay. Instant replay should be implemented tomorrow. Otherwise baseball is saying, "Gee, that was the wrong call. Oh well. That's okay. Nobody's perfect - especially the guy we just stole a perfect game from. Being wrong and not getting the calls right are a part of the game."

Umpires aren't a part of the game. They're supposed to be independent and correct. By not reversing the call and delaying the implementation of instant replay, baseball is saying that getting the calls right is not important.

The argument that it'll delay the game is irrelevant. Last I checked there was no clock in baseball. A game can last two hours or six hours.

Reverse the call. And if not, at a minimum get instant replay NOW!

The other thing that bothered me is that this call was IMMEDIATELY known to be incorrect. By everyone involved. There was no interpretation needed. A home plate umpire, catcher and batter can appeal to a base ump for a check/no check swing. Umps can meet and confer when it comes to home run calls. Why can't they do it in other situations. Why couldn't the home plate up come and say, no, wrong call, the guy is out.
