Dennis Pitta reinjures hip

Discussion for professional sporting events/teams and players.

This would be a great place to discuss the Super Bowl, the NBA Playoffs or whatever else.

Dennis Pitta reinjures hip

Post by hawkwing »

Unlucky day for Dennis Pitta. It's probably well passed time to hang up the cleats.

Oh what a shame. I hate the Ravens though as any Cleveland Browns fan would.

I'm sorry, but I think for the health of his body, so he's not decrepit in his mid forties, that he ought to retire. Sad, but he just has some issues with his body that are just not going to handle the physical demands of the NFL.

It just would have been nice to see his body give him the chance to reach his potential in the NFL.

Pitta had a good run in the NFL, but it's past time to hang them up.

That tweet is incorrect. He has 4+ years in the league, so an injury waiver is not an option. They either have to put him on the IR list or release him--as a vet, he doesn't go through the waiver process.

Pitta is now a free agent, and does not get any injury settlement (as most injury-released vets would get) because he signed a waiver of those settlement rights to persuade them to bring him back.

So, he's out for the season and not getting paid a cent more. Tough luck.

My understanding is that by waiving Pitta, he is able to keep his signing bonus. So doing it this way, the Ravens were actually doing a good thing for Pitta going forward.
