What is the difference level if play of the NCAA lacrosse and the MCLA lacrosse?

The big difference is that MCLA teams are technically club teams that fall under the clubs umbrella of the school and players generally have to pay to play with exception of NAIA schools (though most of the top-level teams run what's known as "virtual varsity," putting in the same hours as a varsity program and have access to weight rooms and film rooms, etc.).

The MCLA is its own league with two divisions in each of its ten conferences. The league runs their own national championship tournament for both divisions every year (this year it's in So-Cal) and takes the conference tournament champion from each conference (like NCAA basketball) and six at-large bids. BYU plays in the RMLC, which could be considered the SEC of the MCLA as it takes two or three of the six AL bids each season.

Recently Michigan, who was a top-level MCLA team, made the jump to NCAA Division-I and Westminster College, who currently plays in the same conference as BYU, is looking at a move to NCAA Div-II in the coming years.

BYU fell just a little bit short last night.

Lost a total of six games this season by a total of six goals (6 one-goal losses). Tough way to go. Also, I think that Coach Schneck is a stand-up guy and is doing well with the team overall, but the Cougars haven't won the conference tournament since he took over and they've lost in the first round of nationals the last two years as the higher seed. He needs to tweak something when it comes to post-season play.
