They're young but are they improving?

At this point, I'd say they're still too inconsistent to mark any steady improvement. They have the talent to play with anyone in the country, it's a matter of putting four-quarters together.

The #5 Cougars go tit-for-tat with the #1 CU Buffaloes through the first quarter, tying the game at 5-5. Then the Buffs remember that they're the number one team in the country and the Cougs remember that they're young and inexperienced. The rest of the game is one long CU run with an occasional Cougar goal to break up the monotony. Final: CU wins 17-7.

Up next: Things don't get much easier for #5 BYU (6-2, 0-1) as they take on the #2 CSU Rams (4-0, 0-0) tomorrow, Saturday, at 7 pm.

BYU comes into the game and grabs a quick two-goal lead. CSU responds with a goal of their own, but BYU has an answer every time, as the game goes back-and-forth, the Rams look like they're the ones who played just last night and get worn down by a relentless Cougar push. In the end, BYU beats the No. 2 team in the county by a score of 10-7.

Next up: The #5 Cougars (7-2, 1-1) return to home-sweet-home for a six-game stand, starting with #23 Arizona on Saturday, March 15 @ 4 pm MDT.

Notes: The win snaps a CSU 33-game winning streak. The last team to beat the Rams? Yep, BYU. No. 1 Colorado lost to Michigan State the same day, not a good day for Colorado teams.

The next poll is due out Tuesday, and we'll probably see ASU jump into the #1 spot and the Cougs MAY jump a spot after BC was annihilated by Colorado.

As predicted, the Cougars bump up one spot in the latest poll to #4 (and receive a #1 vote): http://mcla.us/polls/2014/week_3/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also, as predicted, ASU jumps into the #1 spot, with Colorado and CSU staying in front of the Cougs.

After a very tight three quarters, the #4 Cougars pull away in the fourth to put away #20 Arizona, 14-11. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Up next: The Cougars will have a week off before playing another home game on Wednesday, March 26 against #6 UC Santa Barbara at 4:00 pm (I don't know if Shawn and Gus will be there).

BYU remains at No. 4 in the latest poll: http://mcla.us/polls/2014/week_4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Big home game (apparently recently added) against in-state foe and new Div-I member No. 18 Westminster. Come on out at 5 pm to check out the game.

Boys and girls, if you missed the game today, you missed a good one. The Cougars battled hard in a very physical game against a Westminster squad who were hungry to prove themselves. After battling to a one-goal game at the half, the Cougars made some good halftime adjustments and turned things on in the second half. After the Cougs built a five-goal lead, the Griffins punched back hard, but BYU would answer and hold off the purple-clad team north of town, winning 14-11.

Up next: The No. 4 Cougars (9-2, 2-1) will take on No. 8 UCSB (8-1, 2-0) next Wednesday, March 26, at 4:00 pm.
